How Trump Can Heal the Rift (Vanity)
Jewbacca's Brain ^ | 7/21/2016 | Jewbacca

Posted on 07/21/2016 7:14:33 AM PDT by Jewbacca

I believe it is Trump's obligation, as the victor, to be the bigger man and do his part to heal the rift in the party, regardless of who one believes to be fault. That's just the way these things work. The victor must be a good winner.

Here's what he should work into his speech:

"You know, I've always enjoyed watching Ted Cruz take it to the powers-that-be in Washington. He's a man of deep conservative principles --- and a complete pain in the ass.

I don't enjoy it much when he's a pain in my ass.

But he's OUR pain in the ass.

And he's right about one thing in particular --- and said the most important thing you've heard at this convention --- vote for the man who will uphold the Constitution, believes in liberty and freedom, and who will return this fine country to greatness.

Well, I give my word to Ted, and I give my word to you. Indeed, I swear by G-d, on my life and the life of my children and grandchildren, that I will uphold the Constitution. I believe in liberty and freedom, and I will return this fine country to greatness."

The result would be a healing of the rift, the NeverTrumpers would shut up, and Cruz and Trump could work together, which they will need to do.

20% of registered Republicans don’t support Trump. Google it, if you don’t believe me.

Depends on which survey you are looking at. The vast majority are unreliable. To base your argument on that is a fool's errand. Trump's election is what hangs in the balance of this nation, and for Cruz to have done what he did last night is nothing short of treasonous. But in a way, it was beneficial, because in doing so, he also destroyed any future influence he may have had on this election. America last night saw what kind of a person he is inside - the kind of a person those who have had the misfortune to be his co-workers have seen all along.

Cruz has exposed himself as a malignant narcissist who is emotionally and mentally untrustworthy of the highest office, and will never again be deemed worthy of any kind of public office.

He blew himself up politically last night, and anyone who decides to stay with this dangerous individual is nothing more than a cult follower. I doubt he'll even win re-election to his Senate seat.

If he wants to be the bigger msn, Trump should sincerely apologize for personal insults of Cruz’s wife and father. That would be the first thing that needs to be done to heal the rift between them. There’s nothing wrong with apologizing for a personal insult.

“Now you can go join the Cruz for Hillary campaign.”

Where on Earth are you getting this nonsense?

Seriously, stop fighting conservatives and defeat Hillary. The primary is over.

This is about how to get them to the ballot box.

Cruz's cult followers - the ones that remain - can stay home. They won't influence this election. America last night saw Cruz for what he really is and were as a nation repulsed.

Those former Cruz followers with eyes to see are even now gravitating to Trump.

Game, set, match.

Ok, you’re just trolling. “the primary is over”. Um yeah Ted Cruz is the only one reliving it.

I’m done with ya - you’re either a troll or stupid.

We are going to need every vote.

The Cruz cultists would never vote for Trump anyway. Don't even bother trying to win them over. They are not rational people. It's like trying to convert one of Jim Jones' followers.

That’s what should have happened, but it’s too late for that now.

I saw an interview with Megyn Kelly pressing Trump on the Heidi picture. He went as far as to say “I could have done without that.”

I figured Trump apologized for the insults at his family and in return Cruz would endorse in his speech. Obviously whatever negotiations there were failed.

At that point Cruz shouldn’t have been allowed to speak.

It’s like the last hard-headed Cruz people on FR are so tone-deaf that they rather keep talking, and keep making themselves look like idiots.

Yeah I know one Cruz never trumper. His eyes glaze over just like a cultist. He is never going to concede, he flat out believes Hillary should win to pave the way for the one savior Cruz in 2020. They are all like him, no sense wasting any further effort on them.

Trump has forged a coalition of real diehard conservatives, evangelicals, moderates, Indies and Dems. Even has brought some borderline establishment types with him.

That’s the amazing thing about this election cycle. Trump has forged coalitions - huge ones. Cruz has done nothing but forge a cult.

Not a bad idea, but I would not refer to Cruz at all in the speech. I would though, as you suggest, have Trump pledge to scrupulously follow the laws and Constitution of the United States. It should be suggested, quietly and through reliable intermediaries, that Cruz should take that as an opening to endorse Trump and as a lifeline back to getting in the good graces of the party faithful. Make clear that if Cruz did that, the reaction from Trump would be that he was pleased at the endorsement and valued Senator Cruz as an ally and as a man of great integrity.

It will come from somewhere else, probably the independents. Ted Cruz is a selfish individual and he proved it last night. There is no getting around that. He is a traitor and will be treated as such going forward. Ef em.

Perhaps. I posted a serious message about how Trump can defeat Hillary by reaching out to hold-outs, building on Newt’s brilliant speech of last night.

In response I was attacked as a hold out myself, called names, and generally insulted.

So, yes, perhaps I was stupid to think there would be people who want to defeat Hillary instead of continuing to hold on to hard feelings from the primary.
