One reason Dobies are not chosen as police dogs is that they don’t grab and hold, the bite then step back to see what happens next. German Shepherds grab and hold, so they are better as police dogs.

They employ a rapid bite/jump back/bite/jump back/ad infinitum techniques which makes them devastatingly effective man stoppers.
Along with the short ears and tail, you have a snowball’s chance of grabbing and stopping them from tearing you up.
FWIW, the top ScH dogs are Dobes...who have been taught to bite and hold.
Mine are not taught such things, even though all of their kin in their pedigrees hold ScH and IPO titles.
I have no interest in merely ‘detaining’ someone who attacks me.
