We need gravity. The best way to achieve it in space would be a rotating wheel space station like the one in 2001 a space odyssey. Why the ISS isn't a wheel shape is beyond me.

One of the ISS missions is as a zero gravity lab.

A wheel space station would be many times the cost and size of the ISS, and there are apparently a lot of unknowns, reducing it to a very expensive experiment.
