A lot of employers require an undergrad degree.
BINGO! There is the nub of the problem. Employers have drunk the Kool-Aid and now see a BA as the MINIMUM requirement to even get your foot in the door.
Is even worse when the company is large and resumes go thru the hands lf HR staff who themselves all have worthless BA degrees.
Is even worse if you went to an Ivy League school or other elite university. At that point competence or ability hardly even matter. They see that on your resume, they have their multiple orgasm, then they write you a check.
I agree. Employers are a HUGE part of the problem.

I believe that general aptitude tests are illegal. You can only test a job candidate for skills that directly related to the job they are being considered for. General aptitude tests were seen as an offshoot of ‘Literacy Tests’ that excluded black people from voting etc.

EMPLOYERS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. Go read Griggs vs Duke Power. The problem is the courts.

Not quite. The Supreme Court prohibited general aptitude tests, thanks to
Griggs vs. Duke Power.
So, as a result, they looked for external "markers", like licenses, certifications, and degrees.
Because, apparently general aptitude tests are racist...
