I listened to this masterpiece again last night, without knowing it was the 50th anniversary.
The combination of a great songwriter (Lennon) with a great musician (McCartney) left us with a jewel.
But I have to say I don't like McCartney's silly love songs.

I was hoping to find a link to the story somewhere in this thread.

The best Beatles album, IMO.
The White Album was second.

Agreed and because they were Lennons' masterworks.

Paul McCartney is the only redeemable thing about the Beatles. He’s at least a good jingle writer. John Lennon was completely worthless.

(This is my opinion. There are many like it but this one is mine.)

Who was a great all around songwriter then?

Paul was also the better guitarist and drummer in the Beatles.
That’s Paul soloing on Taxman.

Lennon had five songs on Revolver and two of them (Bird, Robert) were total filler.
“I’m Only Sleeping”
“She Said She Said”
“And Your Bird Can Sing”
“Doctor Robert”
“Tomorrow Never Knows”

John carried the band in the early days, but by then it was Paul carrying them.

I will never tire of listening to one of Paul’s favorite compositions; “Here There & Everywhere”. It holds up as a jewel 50 years later. Best when done in three part harmony, (almost) acapella. Listen to the intro, with the guitar strum and the hummming. They repeated this same disciplined harmony years later on Abby Road’s “Because”.

And your bird can sing is one of the finest Beatles songs ever.
Dr Robert was junk.
The others belong.

Lennon called Bird junk. It’s not regarded as a good song at all.

It certainly doesn’t compare to Rigby, Here There..., and ‘For No One’

But I have to say I don't like McCartney's silly love songs. I like both as songwriters. I'd as well listen to Paul's silly love songs as Lennon's Freudian angst. I remember John saying in his Playboy interview (which came out the month he was murdered) that he always wished he'd written "All My Loving". That was a Paul song, and a masterpiece, IMO.

You’re out of your mind. Lennon was the very best part of the Beatles.
