This is a side line to my pet peeve about how “mobile-friendly” website design has destroyed the desktop/laptop internet browsing experience, but the principle behind my complaint is the same:

A bunch of twenty-somethings is trying to force the rest of us to use “the latest and the greatest”, while violating an eternal and immutable principle of life:

“If it ain’t broke, dont fix it!!”

Now, if they want their “mobile” or “Windows 10” experience, I say - go for it!

*BUT*

Don’t be an EVIL little Socialist and try to force the rest of the world to use systems or software THAT WE DO NOT NEED!

- Windows 7 does everything relating to my business software very well. Microsoft 8, 8.1 did not, they were a disaster. Therefore, I never again want to risk a new operating system that I do not need and that may cause me headaches. Microsoft’s disrespect of this basic human desire (via the tactics described in this article) were beyond the pale. They should have to pay every single person who had to waste his or her time to reverse unwanted MS10 downloads a penalty.

- Ditto for the morons who have foisted “mobile friendly” websites on those of us who will never, ever use a “mobile” device to view the internet, and who LIKE to see more information on our screens. Just give me an option to have the old desktop viewing internet experience.

To them I simply woudl say this:

I don’t want to take away your “mobile” experience that you get through your “Idiot Phones”* (commentary on users, not the technology. If you are confused, take a look around the next time you are out on the street at what people around you are doing and it will all become clear), but ...

DON’T YOU TAKE AWAY MY DESKTOP INTERNET BROWSING EXPERIENCE!!!

The people driving endless (and often unwanted) tech innovation are like little Socialist bureaucrats, made even worse by their relative youth and resultant inexperience in life, not to mention their often complete disrespect of other people’s needs and views...

Lawsuit happy nation.

Under most circumstances, I agree with your statement but Microsoft deserves this. Honestly I would like to see a criminal action against those responsible.

My sister tried to upgrade thursday. It got stuck at 99% for 9 hours. She restarted and it would not start up. Switched out keyboard so she could use the arrow keys as the other keyboard stopped working. Restarted and pressed F8 and started windows normally except it did this:
Recovering orphaned files

Once done it booted into Windows 7. She tried the update again and it got stuck again. After cancelling she tried a windows update and it turned her screen black..... fixed that by using F8. I emailed her some steps to do to clean out the windows 10 files and she will try again with a windows 10 cd she has.

These are known Windows 10 upgrade issues so GOOD LUCK!

There is actually an option within windows 10 to revert back to windows 7 or 8.

Which doesn't always work.

I have friends whose computers were bricked while trying to "revert."

If you have a Win 7 or 8 CD, you can "downgrade" from Win 10. Unfortunately you have to backup all your important files as the revision erases everything.

Suggest you contact the laptop manufacturer and double check that Win 7 will run on your laptop.

Win 7 may not run on some of the newest processors:

Next-Gen CPUs Will Only Support Windows 10 .

Bastards!

Microsoft is facing two more lawsuits over the company’s questionable Windows 10 upgrade tactics. Both suits are seeking class-action status.

We need a U.S. Class action status for a Windows 10 rendering my newest PC desktop a brick. In January. After quite a few hours of troubleshooting, I managed to get it to boot, after losing many files AND ALL of my paid for installed software that worked perfectly in Windows 8.1, but not in Windows 10.

My only remaining reliable computer, a Win 7 machine, I unintentionally left in "hibernate" mode one night about 2 months ago and the next morning it was busy installing Windows 10. I bit the bullet and aborted the installation and about an hour later I had my Win 7 OS back, MINUS QUITE A FEW FILES AND PAID FOR SOFTWARE.

Where do I sign on to a class action suit? Windows "opt in" default for ANYTHING should be DECLARED illegal by legislation.

I may or may not be able to install Windows 10 for free once the Widows users complete Beta Testing, but if not, I DON'T CARE!

Yes, but will it restore all the bought and paid for software (Adobe Acrobat, photoshop, etc ??) and all my many files which went to outer space somewhere?

If folks are not smart enough to welcome a free upgrade to Windows 10 then there's just no hope for them.

I thought that level of arrogance existed only in some politicians.

I'll let you look for yourself further down this thread, to verify that windows 10 is simply incompatible with certain models of some PC manufacturers.

Most of us don't have that OUIJA board to alert us to that fact. That you are exempt from that reality is lovely but getting arrogant about it, is not.

They should have clearly announced to one and all, that they were changing their business model, and offered anyone who wanted Windows 10 to opt in to the new operating system, with the full knowledge that they would pay an annual fee for updates and future upgrades.

Amen!!

I did not know that; I further assume that at least 80% of Microsoft users do not know that.

The apologists for Microsoft just make me sick. I just wonder what universe they exist in. Most normal PC users have a life, and computer operating systems, and their "business models" are not the central focus of their entire existence.

That’s a scary thought! I believe the Geek guy who did the original setup told me it can be done. But who knows if it’s true? He told me MS Office 2003 won’t run on it, and it runs perfectly.

And so, the question still stands: why does Microsoft want to push us all onto Window 10? Is it because they want to spread advertising all over these computers, as some have suggested, or is it something more sinister? Perhaps Windows 10 contains code that makes all users a botnet for something that’s perhaps quite innocent, but could also could be quite sinister.

Windows 10 is a service - not a conventional OS.

It constantly gets updated and Microsoft’s vision is a cloud OS like Google Chrome OS.

If you like that, its probably what you’re looking for.

If not, stick with Windows 7, the last classical Windows OS.

Do you mean sign up for the Windows Ping List? Just ask! :-) I can add you at any time.

Or did you mean sign up for something regarding the Win10 lawsuits?

Let me correct that link I posted. Looks like MSFT will support the Intel Skylake processor for Win 7.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3024372/hardware/intels-skylake-vpro-chips-will-support-windows-7-after-all.html

Businesses who have no desire to convert to Win 10 have pressured MSFT to continue Win 7 support for the newer processors.

How many lawsuits and bad press would they have faced if they had just walked away from Windows Vista, 7 and 8? If folks are not smart enough to welcome a free upgrade to Windows 10 then there's just no hope for them.

There's "no hope" for people who value their own autonomy??? For people who think the hardware they purchased is their own physical property and not to be trifled with absent their explicit and willing consent?? What country did you grow up in?

Me too. We peons hack into someones computer and change/install/delete stuff (or just copy proprietary data, or even do nothing but the access hack itself), we're criminals. But when Microshaft does it, that's just fine. Not in my world.

Thanks for the info. I had “call about Win 7 install” on my to-do list for tomorrow. This info might help when I speak to the geek.
