I really don't care that I catch all kinds of criticism for buying a Toyota Prius

I would wager that even if you're someone who bleeds Ferrari red and has bones made from old Chevrolet Camaros, you would consider buying a Prius, if you honestly considered the decision..... Seeing it actually happen in reality is another story. What a glorious car. I don't care if it's the automotive equivalent of eating low-fat plain yogurt. I'm happy to suffer that pain. Besides, it's a comfortable car. The seats aren't benches of wood. You can make the AC blow as hard as you want. It can play classic rock, and play it sort of loud.

The Prius cultivates in the driver the closest thing to a condition of peace I've ever experienced behind the wheel. It also makes you a better citizen: You embrace the speed limit... I don't even think this is demographic destiny. The Prius isn't really an expensive car. You can be a tree-hugging liberal and get one and that makes sense. But I don't know why someone who leans rights and wants to chop down a lot of trees wouldn't want to spend less than $250 a year on gas.

Beyond that, all the Prius haters are completely misguided in their hatred — but not because the Prius is a magnificent car deceptively cloaked in sheets of boring. Rather, because the Prius is the first successful car that isn't trying to be a car.

Interesting!

I seldom hear negative reviews!
It is a complex machine, something will let go, sooner or later.

Can you tell us the year and mileage?
Was this in a cold climate?

Thanks

There is more to a car’s practicality than gas mileage and cargo capacity.

As a single male in my early 40’s, a Prius is very impractical to my needs.

A Prius may get 50 mpg, but my Audi gets me breakfast companions. YMMV.

Hear, hear.

Don’t but a “jap car” unless you’re 100% sure you like it. Cuz you’re gonna have it forever.

My ‘05 4runner has 168k on it. Been paid off for 7 years. Brakes, oil, and gas are the only things it’s ever needed.

What a glorious car.

Prius?

What a wretched piece of dog-turd that can't get out of its own way.

I have a 2001 Camry with a manual transmission. It is an anvil. It has 160K miles and no sign of dying.

“Buy American.”

I would if they were anywhere near as good as my Camry and...

I will never buy a GM car again because they took the money.

Dodge cars suck. The transmissions are unreliable and the bodies are cheaply made.

Ford is good, but not good enough.

What’s left? Tesla?

Sorry but Toyota and Honda make much better cars. So, I buy used Camrys and Accords. I just sold my ‘98 Camry and bought a 2014.5 used Camry. When it hits 150K miles I’ll probably get another.

“My Prius gets me 51 mpg. What does your Dodge Charger get you?”
“P*ssy.”

Thank you, worth repeating!!!!

“It also makes you a better citizen: “ That’s offensive. Don’t buy Jap cars.

Corolla. Toyota dealer has loaner cars when mine is in for maintenance. I've taken a brand-new Prius for a loaner a few times. It's certainly an interesting piece of electrical and mechanical engineering, but it's severely lacking in power. It will NOT accelerate up the mountains in WV and western VA. Corolla has no problem with them.

it is difficult to argue with ignorance and dogma.

It's impossible to argue with facts and experience. I have facts and experience.

Not much difference in the times.

Having driven Suburbans for years, add a couple of kids, couple dogs and their stuff...they all accelerate about the same.
Seldom do I run max to 60 mph.

In the Rockies our Sub with a 3.72 did not like the steep grades.

Blah blah ...

Tell ya what: cross the Blue Ridge on VA-7 in a Corolla. Cross it in a Prius.

If you try to tell me it's the same, I'll know you're FOS.

Been there. Done that. It ain't.

That is your perceptions.

The length of the hood, the angle of the hood line, the engine noise... will alter your your perceptions.

Put up some real world numbers.

Blah, blah, blah.

The length of the hood, the angle of the hood line, the engine noise DON'T ALTER THE SPEEDOMETER READING.

Put up some real world numbers.

OK. Take your Prius up the west side of the Blue Ridge on VA-7. Can you exceed 70mph? Can you even achieve 70mph? No? Didn't think so. Take your Prius up Sideling Hill on I-68. Can you exceed 70mph? Can you even achieve 70mph? No? Didn't think so.

I tried the Prius. Several times. Real world test drive, not some around the block with the salesman thing. It's a loser.

Heck, I asked for the thing ... I wanted to like it. Bleh ... That's why I like the loaner car deal. I get to find out what different (Toyota) cars are really like.

And that's pretty much all there is to say.

Enjoy your Prius.
