I am pretty sure that the last time I saw her/him she/he was paddling a canoe in an anti-litter commercial.You're right. She bears a striking resemblance to Iron Eyes Cody, the American Indian actor who starred in a famous anti-pollution public service announcement in the 1970s. (At the end of the commercial, he turns towards the camera and you see a single tear running down his cheek.)

Old Iron Eyes Cody was actually born Espera Oscar de Corti. He was a Sicilian-American actor who pretended to be an American Indian in Hollywood films.
