How do you cut someone with a knife if you haven’t practiced it? It seems like the first cuts would be tentative. You are going against your human nature.
Much easier to just pull a trigger.
Perhaps gun mfg might take a cue....start mfg sport-bra guns.
Knives are pretty easy to wield if you catch your target unaware. Having butchered numerous animals, I would say the ease with which a knife passes through a pig’s throat came as a bit of a shock the first time. A sharp knife makes quick work of bare flesh.
For protection, guns are still the best option—just have to have a holster large enough for the calibers. Some can carry a 22, some can hide a 357. ;)

Practice on a ham shoulder or a dead deer. Probably the biggest surprise is how quickly the victim is covered in blood.
