I raised an opossum from a pinky and kept her for two years then found a great home for her.

THEY ARE NOCTURNAL ANIMALS so it will be most active at night and would be the best time to catch her. They will eat just about anything. Maybe use something smelly like salmon.. A little bit of fruit like banana or something..

They can be VERY mean, lots of razor sharp teeth. Or startle it and it will pass out and play dead.

NOTE: If it's a she with babies the good news is, she take the babies with her wherever she goes!

Yes, they can be scary when teeth exposed in fight mode. Don't get close. Follow advice of Freepers, either hire a pro or put cages with food near the entry point or somewhere in the yard. I've had mice or rats for years in my wall that no one could figure out where was the opening-- until this year I noticed a small piece of the light switchplate was cracked off. Duct tape did the job! Therefore, when you figure out how the possum is getting in, fix it:-)

Or take off running. I opened the back door to take a picture of one, and it took off at a sprint when it heard the noise. Fortunately, it was aimed 90 degrees from me, so it ran left to right; if it had run toward me, I wouldn't have been able to get the door closed quickly enough.

The dog and feral cat have combined to discourage backyard visits in the last few years (they like to hunt as a team).
