Short segment from an Amos and Andy episode. My summary at the beginning:

The Mystic Knights of the Sea are getting ready for their annual boat outing. Last year they collected $500.00 and put in the club safe, but Kingfish (the Treasurer) has been pilfering it all year and there is nothing left. He has gathered up $200.00 using various schemes, but they need $500.00 for renting the boat and the food. Kingfish is explaining to Andy how they are going cut corners:

Kingfish: “Last year we spent $35.00 alone on hot dogs. I think we can cut that to the bone too”

Andy: “Well, how you gonna do that?”

Kingfish: “Well, here is the plan Andy. I’m gonna put you down in the galley of the ship cookin’.

Andy: “Yeah”.

Kingfish: “Now if any of the brothers manages to stagger down the stairway there for the hot dogs, here’s what you do: when you serves the dog, you reaches for the mustard stick with your right hand, and you palms the hot dog out of the roll with your left.”

Andy: “Yeah, but uh… even with the boat rockin’ the brothers are goin’ to know if they ate a hot dog or not! Ain’t they?”

Kingfish: “Well uh… that’s where the mustard comes in. We is goin’ to use hot English mustard and we goin’ to load it with horseradish. And between the mustard and the horseradish, their gums is goin’ to be so numb, they ain’t gonna know what happened to ‘em!”

Andy: “Listen… you mean you gonna serve the whole 30 brothers and their wives with one hot dog?”

Kingfish: “Well… we better get two in case the fust one gets tattered up a little bit.”

As far as an actor and a comedian....I'd have to say Robin Williams...

I am not sure we can assess an “all time” for this category, as it seems a bit vague.

Charlie Chaplin seems to be a prime candidate. Have you ever watched his films? “City Lights” is pure genius. He made it an essentially silent film when talkies were the new rage, risking a lot of star capital. The story is lovely, his acting AND directing of his cast are equally brilliant.

Chaplin had it all.

For this generation, I think Albert Brooks deserves mention. Acting in comedies, he seems to mostly play the same guy, sort of like Chaplin’s Little Tramp, but he does so with a subdued passion.
