I was listening to the talk radio show Coast to Coast AM, this morning.
There was a very good segment, on the threat of losing power, due to an EMP attack.
This is an issue, which George Noory, has been talking about, for almost two years.
I support him on this, and think this is an issue which Trump should take a position on.
America needs to protect our electrical grid.

That sounds bad....I prefer to sleep, get up at 5 or 5:30 am, and sip coffee on my patio. : )
An EMP bomb over the continental USA, dropped into our atmosphere from a NK satellite or other method, would mean years of hardship for all except those in the protected oligarchy class. For common folks like us, it would boil down to survival of the fittest, especially in urban areas. Unless you’re on a few 1000 acres surrounded by a shark and alligator-filled moat, running that generator would be the same as posting a huge sign in the yard saying “We have food & water & survival supplies. Now leave us alone or you may get shot!”
Starving criminals take desperate actions in desperate circumstances. Normally you defend yourself and that’s that. But like I mentioned, if you aren’t isolated, there will be an endless supply of starving and otherwise desperate people, much less the random sociopath wandering around. Just my 2 cents.
And someone ping me if you know of silent generators or solar panels disguised as something no starving person would want!
Its not going to be an EMP but its going to happen. Sooner or later one of these hackers will manage to put the grid down or group will figure out a plan to blow up the 9 strategic substations that need to be taken out to put the grid down.
The consequences of an EMP have a temporal scope of many years. Your household supplies might last a few months at best. The lack of electricity means no commerce, no fuel supplies, no food supplies. Most water supplies have an electric pump involved between the source and consumer. You'll be in fine shape for a week or two until gas tanks run dry and store shelves are empty. The less prepared EBT ferals will be on the prowl for resources. You will have to defend yourself and your resources.
Side note: If an atmospheric EMP ever hit us and knocked us back into the Stone Ages, it will be some of you young whippersnappers who rebuild our country and go on to live in the new world of cyberspace. It would be an Internet with very few surviving archives, as I doubt many conservative websites have hardened servers and equipment.
Please do the rest of us a favor and be sure to tell people about Free Republic and all the stuff this place has done to protect our liberty and freedom.

I too have my own water well. The water is delivered by by an electrically powered pump. I have a whole house generator powered by my own natural gas well. I would think that the pump (submersible) is protected from an EMP. My generators are not protected so they will be immediately fried. Some time when free time prevails (shit too) I shall build Faraday cages, or something similar. Unless you do likewise, I do not think you are protected.

Anyone capable of launching a nuke into orbit isn’t going to waste it on trying to maybe create an EMP but would go for complete destruction of nuking cities instead.

I bought a metal garbage can for use as a Faraday cage. Lined it w/ some rubber mats to keep anything inside from coming in contact with the metal.
Keeping a couple radios, batteries, flashlights in it.
Of course if everything else in the Country is fried all I’ll pick up on the radios is white noise. :^)
Should the EMP induce voltage levels sufficient to exceed the semi-conductors voltage ratings and force conduction of excess current, damage could occur. Wire runs act as antenna to collect and feed energy into equipment. Emergency equipment connected by wiring but not powered is more susceptible to imposed external voltage spikes.
Lightning arrester equipment may not have sufficiently fast response time to clamp the overload spike to ground generated by an EMP weapon. Special fast response protection devices may be suitable. High frequency components of EMP will pass through small gaps of metal enclosures—the computers in automobiles have dozens of connections for a destructive signals to enter—get a spare and place in protective quarantine.
Well, it’s a srep in the right direction considering a just a couple of days ago he had a guest on who did a whole Hitler/ Trump analysis.
Something that would be perfect is a vehicle or generator run by an old diesel engine.
Insulators! Insulators! Insulators! Big tower transmission lines running extreme voltages into urban areas??? Water, food, fuel and heat suffer during a loss of grid electricity. Rural areas are better prepared for three day or more grid loss. Walking dead scenario after 3 days of urban chaos because of a dead grid.
