I know a judge that left the scene of an accident he caused, drove home and was found with an almost empty glass of wine when the officers arrived.

He knew the consequences for leaving the scene were less than a dui.

A lady lawyer did that in a town near me.

She hit a farm tractor, left the scene, drove home, and was never charged with DUI even though she was smashed when officers got to her house just moments after she pulled in her garage.

I've got a really great judge/DUI story you reminded me of. I was driving down the freeway, clear sunny day, light traffic, middle lane. All of a sudden a big late model Mercedes sedan comes screaming up in the fast lane doing maybe 90. After passing me, but just before an overpass, the Mercedes driver decides he wants to take the exit. So he screams across all four lanes, without dropping his speed, and angles for the exit.

He misses the exit.

As I drive by at 60, watching in amazement, he hits a whole line of those plastic garbage cans that are filled with impact absorbing material, that they sometimes put in front of lane separators. I knew what they were, but never saw them in action. Well... LOL... they go off like a volcano, one after the other as he hits them without braking - no brake lights, I saw it myself. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, with this dry grey stuff exploding out of the top of them, their plastic lids flying into the air.

I figured he was dead. HAD to be dead, hitting those things at that speed. So I went to the next exit and called the Highway Patrol and reported the event (this was pre-cellphones). Curious, I continued down the freeway turned around and drove back to see the mess.

No car.

Crap all over the freeway, empty barrels rolling around, but no car, no blood, no guts, nothing. I was totally mystified. So when I got home, I called the Highway Patrol again, and told them what I saw. The officer on the other end told me that the guy drove away and tried to hide, because he was a judge and didn't want to get busted for drunk driving. He wouldn't tell me the name of the judge though. He said that people saw him back up and drive up the offramp, and got his plates, and the cops caught him sneaking into his driveway when he went home.

I told him there's no way anyone could survive the impact, or that the car would be driveable, but he said the airbag went off and saved his life, and the front end, while damaged, was protected by all the exploding impact barriers.

It was incredible.
