They were pretty popular back then - the album cover for “Whipped Cream and other Delights” was well received.

The lady in the picture was expecting when it was taken. VERY strategic “whipped cream”.

As it turns out, both Herb Alpert and Taco Bell are as Mexican as each other.

Yes they were popular, good listening music. Have all the Tijuana Brass and Baja Marimba Band albums from back then.

They don’t write them like that anymore. He had a bunch of great material.

Yakety Sax might be more appropriate music.

I’m almost positive the last time I heard that one was back in 1966 on AFVN.

I think I might have that album in the stack of stuff from my Dad.

Cool note...my band teacher played in a band with Herb Alpert and also with Doc Severinson. (not sure if at the same time or not)

The 1st and 2nd chair trumpets got to visit with them backstage when they were on tour nearby. I was the Tuba player (formerly trumpet) so I didn’t go. I think I was invited but my family was poor as dirt.

I named my Army HMMWV “Tijuana Taxi” because it was such a collection of junk and mismatched parts. The new Top ordered me to change the name when he spotted it so I painted it out but I was turning it over to another guy the next day anyway. Hey, don’t close the windows, buddy - there’s quite an exhaust leak!

When seen, this brought to mind the same album “Whipped Cream and other delights”. He has done so many recordings the early ones are seldom remembered; he began recording as HA and the Tijuana Brass. Today the female singers are more center stage (the reason DH enjoys the sound today)Tijuana Taxi and The Lonely Bull haven’t been remembered or mentioned/seen in a number of years.

My older brother bought that album - it kinda 'jump started' my journey into puberty ...

OMG!!! This is so awesome! I spent hours listening to my dad's Herb Alpert albums growing up in rural mid-Missouri! We lived in a trailer in a little town just north of Lake of the Ozarks. Dad was a high school and tech school teacher and I was in the fourth grade.

Dad also got me hooked on Star Trek and the Mystic Moods.

Dad was literally a rocket scientist in the 60s then found that it isn't what you know or the content of your character that mattered. Spent a decade working his way back from working at 7-11 to teaching to QA inspector to engineer again. The man had NO quit in him!!

Dad is not loud or obnoxious, just constant as the northern star. Men like him are rare...I'm not one of them but he did teach my sorry ass a few important things about character and manhood even if I didn't always listen.

Sorry about the long reply, one too many Mai-Tai's. I'm in Jamaica with my fabulous wife for her 12th lustrom celebration.

Respect Mon!

When I was in high school, at the time “Tijuana Taxi” was riding the charts, a classmate owned a car manufactured in France in the 1920’s, which he drove to school. He said that Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass contacted him, hoping to purchase it, but he apparently turned them down. The car and its owner later got a write-up in the local paper.
