Tell her No Drugs, if she has any desire to live a normal life.

Ultimately, diet is the only possible answer.

Green herbs, animal protein, eggs, animal fats, saturated vegetable fats (like coconut oil), and lots of the hottest peppers she can stand to eat.

The peppers quickly improve blood flow and will cause the most noticeable improvement in her health.

Above all, no polyunsaturated fats whatsoever, and no pasteurized or low fat dairy products.

Also, Iodine is very important. Lugols is the best, if she can get a prescription for it from a compounding pharmacy. Iodine is quite hard to obtain in any useful form.

Get pregnant.

They used to say that people with MS should avoid pregnancy. Now the data shows that the same biological processes that stop a woman from identifying the baby in utero as “different” and then destroying it, also stop the body from identifying the myelin as different and destroying it.

I was having 6-8 really bad MS attacks per year ... requiring IV prednisone, and causing transient and some permanent damage. I got pregnant just over 15 years ago (ended up being twins so a really big dose of hormones). I have had one mild attack in the years since the twins were born, and that was brought on by excessive stress and lack of sleep.

I concur with some of the other posters about Vitamin D. I started taking 2000-5000 iu of Vitamin D a year after the twins were born (we moved to Seattle when they were one ... no sunshine.) My ND says she has seen MS attacks lessen in her other patients with large D doses too.

Ketogenic is good, but even bigger is avoiding wheat. More and more info out there about people that have gone grain free to lessen the MS attacks. I have been gluten-free for 6 years now (not for MS though ... I was finally diagnosed celiac).

There is so much info out there about helpful dietary and lifestyle changes for MS. When I was having the frequent attacks, I was on MS meds ... I have been on Betaseron, Avonex, and Rebif. I stopped when I got pregnant and never went back on.

Wish her all the best. The early days can be scary trying to wade through all the info and “worst case” stories.

At the very least, you should take Vitamin D, as even conventional medicine sources are beginning to recommend. Can Vitamin D Help MS? A comprehensive approach that combines conventional and alternative therapies is outlined by Life Extension. Your doctor may be willing to let you pursue such therapies while under his care, but if not, LE also has on their website a directory of doctors who might be consulted for help with such an approach. Good luck.

For your “celiac” try oregano caps, 6-8 spread out through the day (North American Herb). Probiotics are helpful too.

Here's a link to Dr Wahls website. She herself has MS and claims to have goon from a tilt-rcline wheelchair to riding her bike everyday.

I want to thank you , ALL, for your encouraging and sincere posts. I sent my niece an email with this thread included. I'll be writing her to suggest taking a little at a time. There is so much good advice I don't want her to be overwhelmed by it all.

Your niece can join Life Extension for something like $100/yr...and get short consults with their on call doctors. Might be worth it. Their September 2016 magazine has an article about Vit D and MS...also the Dr Wright I mentioned above is on their board...fwiw.

My wife was diagnosed with MS over 30 years ago. I reviewed her miedcal history and noticed that each MS attack occurred within weeks of getting a crown. We had her mercury fillings replaced, include the mercury under the crowns. Her MS symptoms disappeared for 15 years. There are theories about crowns over mercury creating a battery effect upon the brain. Who knows? Modern science has no clue what causes MS.

I want you to read the email my dear niece sent to me and to ALL of you.

"I read through everything yesterday on Free Republic. Very informative and thanks to you and everyone who took the time to reply. I will go back and go through it again slower as there was so much info. I also just watched some of the videos you sent today. They too are very helpful!

I have some coconut oil in our cupboard and that is something I am going to now do regularly along with getting Dr. Wahl's book. This is just a start because there is so much available as you have sent me already. I can't thank you enough!"
