Eventually, Marinea envisions having fish farming, medical research, and services that are not permitted in authoritarian countries.

Hmmmm

The US government will be along shortly to put an end to this wacky notion of freedom.

A word of advice: steer clear of the Little Sisters when they’re working. You do not want to meet the Big Daddys.

A lot of wealth just floating around, they hope. How will they fight off pirates?

Nice theory, but how do you start your own country without a competitive military? What’s to stop the Russkies or Chinese (or Americans) from sailing up and takibg over?

Another stupid idea that will: (1) Never come to fruition, and (2) make a lot of suckers broke in the process.

The plan is to create the infrastructure and framework for independence from land and the problems that come with it

So, they're building a cruise ship?

Will this “sustainable village” have judges to resolve disputes arising between the inhabitants? If so, how will these judges enforce an order to pay damages? There is no reliable way to confiscate bitcoins.

Doesn't track right with me either.

Claims to be a testbed for research to combat pollution, overcrowding and scarce resources, then they want to build in a spot with NO resources and NO land to manage wisely. Don't know how they intend to start without Billions of dollars in donations and ongoing, continuing support from the mainland.

Some rich folks might be interested, just for the tax advantages. A few addled greenies might give to save the erf, if they promise to build a unicorn sanctuary.

The fueling station was a neat twist, assuming you need one in the middle of the ocean.

Guess I lack vision - the monorail episode of The Simpsons keeps nagging at me...

In other words, Marinea is a giant floating "safe space."

Just wait until hurricane season.

Give ‘em a couple of hurricanes and it will be a ghost town and a navigation hazard.

I’ve been on a pipeline barge in the Gulf of Mexico being towed in as a hurricane was bearing down. When the waves are so high that you see the tug towing you only every so often and your life depends on a single cable not snapping then you Know Who is really in charge and that we exist by his grace alone. Everybody should do it at least once.

Pro-abortion people set up hospital ships that could do abortions.
Imagine something far more life-affirming set up just off shore when Obamacare starts denying types of care per cost saving measures and those on Medicare aren’t allowed to get the care in the US outside of the Medicare network.

Likely being sold for aging lefties who are consumed with trying to live forever though medicines etc. On this “island” any kind of unethical research with embryos, cloning, animal human hybrids etc. will likely be allowed. The Bahamas need to look into this and see if they are really onboard with it.

It would be nice, though, for there to be somewhere where informed people could be involved in experimental drugs if that is their only human hope for living longer. Now people die while they drugs may exist that can help them, if they weren’t still prohibited by the FDA.
