And the further annoyance about this is that every time segregation and prejudice are brought up people generally think of that as a Southern thing.
It really chaps my cheeks.

Oh, I know! I’m a huge defender of the south - my family were Copperheads, it turns out - not that that is anything to brag about. But the south gets hit on the head every single day when the north was just as bad! We didn’t have the Jim Crow laws but we certainly had segregation. Lena Horne was denied entry into the Stork Club in NYC - I guess ‘cause she was so low-class, sarcasm alert.
