Word For The Day, Tuesday August 30, 2016

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

adjective [aj-ik-tiv]

-n
Grammar. any member of a class of words that modify nouns and pronouns, primarily by describing a particular quality of the word they are modifying, as wise in a wise grandmother, or perfect in a perfect score, or handsome in He is extremely handsome. Other terms, as numbers ( one cup; twelve months), certain demonstrative pronouns ( this magazine; those questions), and terms that impose limits ( each person; no mercy) can also function adjectivally, as can some nouns that are found chiefly in fixed phrases where they immediately precede the noun they modify, as bottle in bottle cap and bus in bus station.

[1350-1400; Middle English < Late Latin adjectīvum, neuter of adjectīvus, equivalent to adject (us) attached, added, past participle of ad (j) icere (ad- ad- + -jec-, combining form of jac- throw + -tus past participle suffix) + -īvus -ive]

There was some confusion yesterday.

The fact that "adjective" is a noun probably won't clear things up.

Your timely and informative post was early on this sunny and hot day. I will need to drive to the pasture and trail-filled park to avoid the horrendous, bumper-to-bumper school traffic to get my daily cardio, fresh air, and healthful portion of Vitamin D.

Word of the Day is addictive
One might say it’s compulsive
We log on and muse
And then we use
A noun, verb, adverb or adjective

I was going to note that, but left it as an exercise for the reader.

There is no dearth of adjectives to describe the sartorially challenged, dementia-ridden dem candidate for POTUS.

Also serving the “these words are too obscure!” constituency. :-)

I don’t know, I am fairly certain that I will NOT use the word “adjective” today in common parlance... ; )

Not even in its legal sense?

“concerning methods of enforcement of legal rights, as pleading and practice (opposed to substantive).”

What is in a Zika kit? Off?

The Hawaii trip has us staying in Waikiki. They’ll be playing on one of the ships at Pearl Harbor.

Not one single adjective
That comes right to mind
Would never describe her
As honest caring or kind-

Even her appearance begs
For some fashion advice-
The ugly fat lady clothes
Don’t make her look nice

It just goes to show how
She has every fancy treat-
Most of us watch pennies
When buying what we eat...

That woman has worse taste in clothing than thunder thighs Obama-and I didn’t think that was possible...

Most people who are overweight-women especially-really get into dieting and losing some pounds when they are running for office and getting a neat wardrobe-it isn’t just appearance, it is about whether you are sloppy and uncaring about other stuff, too. Even gov Christie went on a diet and had a gastric bypass-Hillary looks like she has been eating as much as she can stuff herself with since she started her campaign-it is NOT attractive...

She IS bloated and FAT! That white pantsuit on stage at her convention....OMy.....she looked like the michelin dough boy walking Halloween freak inflatable.

And I cannot stop giggling over the fact that her billyboy married the weiner and huma. What a fiasco that is. All of them are freaks.
