not necessarily. both my kids live in “better” zipcodes than i do, but they save their Walmart shopping for my neighborhood. and we have a nice Walmart!

Bingo! In some areas Walmart is regarded as a daycare for single moms to let their welfare spawn roam around for hours, ripping open candy or snack bags, leaving half-filled soda cans on shelves or in carts, or toys taken out of boxes, played with, and left on the floor.

Decades ago supermarket chains left St. Louis ghetto areas when the losses (and crime) could no longer be tolerated. Walmart will likely close some of its stores for the same reason.

It sure does. This is a poor white county of WA State. We have a poor Walmart (so being black isn’t it) from poorly stocked shelves, bad customer service and very slovenly employees and 2nd rate clothing and products, even for a Walmart. I shop there very very rarely. We have 2 stores here and Walmart is the only one that has more than just groceries. I buy non food items when I travel out of this county and mostly use internet ordering.

Probable reasons:

• The store reflects the clientele
• Management prefers spending more time in the nicer neighborhoods, so the poor neighborhoods don't get as much management attention.
• Stores in the nicer neighborhoods are probably more profitable and customers buy more higher ticket items.
• Stores in the poor neighborhood has clientelle that aren't as respectful and they causes messes and destruction.

I live about 30 miles outside of Philly, and when I go into any stores, especially the “big box” stores, I NEVER see hints of the kinds of messes that are common when I have been in similar stores in and very close to Philly. It’s not a mystery, “urban” clientele is much more likely to be sloppy, wasteful, and inconsiderate of others..... not to mention more criminals. If someone wants to make it about race, so be it, but that is what I have observed over many years and decades.
