"We saw them out on the ledge as we were shooting other photos and that "Eureka!" moment just unfolded," says photographer

This wedding snapshot just might put every other couples' big day photos to shame.

Photographer Mike Karas of Hawaii was simply enjoying the sunset when he says he happened to be in the right place at the right time. As a newlywed couple emerged from the shadows, Karas snapped a once-in-a-lifetime photo of the unidentified duo as they embraced on top of a cliff in Yosemite with the golden sun setting behind them.

The unforgettable moment turned out to be one of Karas's favorite photos that he has ever captured.

"It was surreal," he said. "We had seen the bride and groom walking down, but all of a sudden we saw them out on the ledge as we were shooting other photos and that 'Eureka!' moment just unfolded."

Karas has since shared the photo on Instagram and Facebook in hopes of hunting down the couple so that he can share the priceless picture with the newlyweds.

As he waits, he is grateful to the mysterious tandem for allowing him to share in an extraordinary moment that was captured with just one frame.

"Thanks for adding to an already amazing sunset photo opportunity and I would love to be able to share this with you," Karas said. "As much of an amazing moment it was for me to capture, it was clearly an even more special moment in your life." \ The photo was taken at sunset on Sept. 1 at Taft Point along the Pohono Trail in Yosemite National Park.

My husband and I were married in the Grand Canyon on the edge of a cliff with the Colorado River below. it was incredible to say our vows surrounded by such majestic beauty that only God's hand could create. I wouldn't trade that wedding for anything or anywhere else!

Wow, beautiful. My son and his wife were at a wedding in Yosemite last weekend! But the wedding they went to was on Saturday, this is dated 9/1.

I was married 42 years ago in “God’s church”. I had never gone to an outdoor wedding, but my parents had a home on Lake Washington, so we got married there.
It was early June and it rains in June in Washington state, but not our day, clear blue sky warm and beautiful, God was in charge!!

Perfect metaphor: Wedding day is the pinnacle, with limitless vistas. After, it’s down into the canyon, never to escape or be heard from again.

I’m guessing the couple helicoptered up to the top of Half Dome for this. Otherwise, it’s a 5-hour hike and climb from the valley below to where they are in the picture.

If any of you are in decent shape, you gotta put the Half-Dome climb on your bucket list.

It’s worth the workout.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Mr & Mrs. Darwin’s Award Wannabeez.

A sudden gust of wind or an earthquake (IIRC Yosemite is considered earthquake country) could do it.

Photographer is in dodgy position

Only if he tries to make money off it. And since they were in a pretty public place, they have little expectation of privacy, so they would have a pretty weak claim. Better to just give the photographer his due and celebrate the beauty they shared.

Don't have to get there by helicopter. Here's the story of a photographer who followed two lovebirds up the cable: http://travel.resourcemagonline.com/2015/07/a-rare-and-beautiful-wedding-on-the-edge-of-half-dome-in-yosemite/1675/

The story is worth reading, but the executive summary is: they vacuum packed their formal wear, and back packed everything to the top in July of 2015.

Eventually I'm sure some knuckleheads will tie the knot on El Capitan while completely vertical -- it may already have been done...

I see it as a new day dawning and the world opened up before them, infinite in its beauty and possibilities.

But then, I'm just a romantic at heart.

Unless they have a contract with another photographer. Public place doesn’t give photographer a pass.....in fact it makes it harder
