I also have the XD40, only with a very bright flashlight and laser site mounted under it. The very bright flashlight blinds and fully illuminates the perpetrator, the red dot tells you just where to aim.

This sort of setup is a perfect in home weapon. My life was threatened once by a person that actually entered our home when we were away to prove she could do it. Mentally speaking, I was prepared to do whatever.

I have, or used to have prior to the rowboat accident, a red dot but no flashlight. Never had to use it, but now that it’s gone, I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

I learned to shoot rifle left handed, but years later when I got into pistol shooting, dominant eye issues prompted me to transition to shooting right handed. At least for sidearms. Took it upon myself to retrain decades of muscle memory to do the same with rifle recently, a process sped up a lot practicing with air rifles. Feels natural now, but sure did not for the longest time.

i shoot GLOCKs right handed with left eye dominance with no issues after some small adjustment. with a red dot and more practice i can shoot a rifle right handed with both eyes open, iron sights no way in hell.

Back before 1965, the city of New Orleans used to dispose of unwanted and seized handguns by throwing them in the lake.

My granddad must've found one of the NOPD dumping spots by accident. He pulled up a crab net and snagged a nickel-plated Colt New Pocket revolver. It must've have been in the lake for very long, because an oil bath and scrub showed it to be in good shape, all things considered. My cousin still has it. Even though a gunsmith has checked it out for cylinder timing, etc., he's afraid to shoot it.

There are several freepers on this thread who have had bad experiences on the water. Tragic.

I once saw, only once, someone on this site that put up a .gif of a boat sinking named “SS FReeper”. The headline said thousands of guns lost. I wish I could find it.
