American actress Charmian Carr, who played the eldest von Trapp daughter Liesl in the film The Sound of Music, has died aged 73.
Carr died in Los Angeles after complications from a rare form of dementia, her representative said.
In her role in the 1965 film, she famously performed the song Sixteen Going on Seventeen.
After leaving the film industry, Carr ran an interior design firm in California.
Her mother had arranged for her to audition for the role, although she had had no singing or acting lessons.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music was a massive hit, at the time surpassing Gone with the Wind as the highest-grossing film of all time.

I remember when Dad took our family to see this at a drive-in.
We were about a mile away.
Dad was a cheapskate.
He taped two toilet paper centers together and told us it was binoculars.
He tried to lip read the songs.
“The halls are alone with the sand of mooses.”
He shoulda got an academy award or something.
So sad. IIRC, the Von Trapp family cast appeared for a 50th reunion last year, including Miss Carr.
The so-called stars today cannot hold a candle to the stars of yore. Carr nailed her SOM role.
Agree, one of the greatest movies of all time. Many young, red-blooded males, including myself, had a big crush on ‘Liesl.’
You can come home for Thanksgiving now; Dad's way better. He doesn't spin us around with paper bags over our heads claiming it's "just like Disneyland®" anymore.
Fred!
Good old Fred!
I thought the rest of the family forgot all about me when Dad sold me to the circus.
Not good old Fred, though.
You were always Dad’s favorite.
He used a paper bag with you and a plastic bag with me.
He said that way I could see the fireworks show.
And to think I was jealous of you, especially when he told you that the red-dot-cat-toy-thingy he shined in your eyes for the laser show.
Fred, that’s why I can’t come home.
Dad had that red-dot-cat-toy-thingy attached to a pistol and he told me he’d show me the shooting gallery if I came back.
Take good care of Mom. Tell her I’ve stopped drooling.....mostly.
I guess Dad's picked up where you left off in that regard.
