If only because Tom Hanks hasn’t had much “family man” image overall (lately, only “disaster” image!), AND in the ‘80s - no way. Not at all, and he was only just getting started after his stint in “Bosom Buddies” TV show. He’s been much more popular SINCE the ‘80s.
