SR#1210 – 6 Days Until Internet D-Day? Obama Relinquishes Control & Oversight -IANA -ICANN

Visit our website now: http://www.billstill.com - considered by informed insiders’ as THE ultimate resource for fixing the National Debt problem and surviving Economic or Financial Collapse/Crash and attaining the unvarnished truth about Washington and today’s United States Political Climate.

Good morning, I’m still reporting on SR 1210 – 6 Days Until Internet D-Day? http:// www.billstill.com/ 018:15 – Sept. 24, 2016 Good morning, I’m still reporting on Internet uncertainty. Control over core aspects of the Internet will transfer from US government control over to a non-profit that is becoming increasingly internationalized is just 6 days - Friday night at midnight.

Here is the general issue, it’s deep in the Internet weeds, but here’s my best shot at making sense of this for you as concisely as possible.

At issue is who maintains control over the root zone – the area where the internet’s most basic functions occur – called the IANA functions – the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority.

Currently, the central controlling authority for this IANA function is ICANN – the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers - the non-profit in question, headquartered in Los Angeles.

ICANN has a very international Board of Directors headed by Chairman, Steve Crocker – an American. But Crocker’s term expires next year. However, there has never been any hint of unfair bias in ICANN’s activities in the past.

The current situation is that the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunication and Information Administration - or NTIA – provides general oversight over ICANN’s governance of this IANA function – just a double-check over what they do and how they do it.

The big issue here is that at the stroke of midnight that oversight will end and ICANN becomes the big boss. And once this oversight function is given away, some say, there is no going back.

Now for normal, everyday functions – no problem. However, the issue is what happens in a cyber war? Even if the US military has its own secure internet dedicated to military operations, U.S. national security depends heavily on commercial U.S. companies and their ability to do business efficiently.

The argument then is - on one side - those who sincerely believe that we built it, we should maintain control of it.

On the other side, however, there are those who point to NSA abuse of cyber, as well as the lack of respect for the US Constitution that President Obama displays on a daily basis.

What if powerful, malevolent forces take over the U.S. government? – ahem - Obama.

Or, imagine if the junior senator from Alberta, Canada ascended to this nation’s highest office – which he still fully intends to do? And what if, once in power, he appointed George Soros as Secretary of State?

How would those of us who love freedom and go by the decentralization-of- power standard as the best way to keep Big Brother at bay – how would we feel about Cruz controlling the controllers?

Not so much, eh? This is not an impossible scenario, either. I mean, there are still around 40% of the people in this country who would vote for Hillary Clinton for God’s sake – the most corrupt politician in U.S. history! So, at some point we may wish someone else had a bigger say in how Internet functions were run.

Simply put, those are the issues. I admit, that in this case, I can’t take a stand on either side. I hate to take a stand against Trump, because too many times where I’ve doubted his judgment, he’s been right and I’ve been wrong. So, I don’t have a final sentence for this report. You’ve got to make up your own minds.

Bottom line is that this handover probably can’t be stopped. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has put up an effective block so that Cruz cannot be the saving hero in this case, so there is probably nothing to be done – today.

We’ll look at this again after the election and see just what can be done from that point – and – as they say in chess - make our next best move.

Today, we have one very important and overriding issue that we all can very much effect for the good. This internet issue pales in comparative importance to devoting 100% of our energies to making America great again.

I’m still reporting from Washington. Good Day.

NOT TRUE
NOT WHAT I HEARD ON FRIDAY.

McConnell CR has nothing to do with putting a block so Cruz being saving hero...

It is about Democrats playing politics by loading up the CR with pork that GOP cannot support.

People need to contact email/call/tweet their Senators to support SB3031 and Congress Reps to support HR5418. Need to email/tweet/call Pelosi and Reid and tell them to stop putting crap on the CR~~stop playing politics with our Internet.

I normally agree with Still’s reporting, but not on this one...I don’t think he has done enough research—It will not be good for National Security, commerce or Freedom of Speech if Internet regulations begin to be ceded from the United States...

Stopping Internet Transfer and Voting for Trump are not exclusive—we should do both!!

Oh and since we US taxpayers actually paid for Internet development thru DOD ARPNET and our telecommunications taxes...IT SHOULD STAY HERE...IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

I agree with John Bolton:

What are some good alternative NETs?

If there aren’t any, we need to start some...

that won’t be censored by China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, et al

I don’t know of alternative commercial use internet NETs...Maybe some tech-minded folks do. There are intranets that are privately used by companies, but not for public commerce; and there are private military intranets used for some defense functions.

However, with all due respect, why should we have to “start some” new ones when we paid for this one?!?!

Don’t you think it would be just be a whole lot easier to try to keep the one we have rather than cede control and try to start some?

I would encourage you to take a few minutes in the next couple days to make some calls/emails/tweets to keep the one we have...

Mr. Still is not correct on his reporting of this...It is late but they always wait till they are under the wire and Washington needs to know this is an important issue to us! They won’t if no one cares enough to contact them...

...Even if it is too late to get vote in this session (which would be very bad), Trump will need our support and support of Congress to get this issue moving again in the next session...

Our Nominee is supporting keeping this NET with the PROTECTION OF INTERNET FREEDOM ACT SB3031 AND HR5418. Why not help him out NOW by making those contacts?

ICANN is NOT a ‘phone book’, DAGNABBIT!

Too many people are confused.

Let’s cut through the lies and make this as simple as ‘ABC’.

At a minimum we need an FRnet. Time to get a computer set up that is NOT connected to the i-net in preparation.

“Good morning, I’m still reporting on SR 1210”

Not sure why I missed this, but I could not find SR1210...So here is another problem I have with Mr. Still’s reporting on the issue...As per offices of Congressman Duffy and Senator Cruz, the bills that are relevant to internet transfer, PROTECTING INTERNET FREEDOM ACT are:

SB3031
HR5418

I don’t have the time or inclination to try and figure out what he is talking about, but a quick search on SR1210 turned up nothing relating to current internet legislation...Again, I don’t think he knows what he is talking about....

Well, I am not a tech person, so I am not sure that can be done easily or economically.

I know that some have talked about email lists like Drudge used back in the 90s...hope that is not what patriots end up doing to communicate, but I do remember IRAN shutting off the Internet during the attempted democracy revolution...You may not recall that because the msm said nothing and UN and barry did nothing. Now we have a strong and unfree Iran :(

Frankly, I think the best thing we can do is fight to keep OUR internet—after all, WE DEVELOPED IT AND PAID FOR IT...

********************************

AGAIN I WILL ASK THAT ALL FREEPERS WHO CARE ABOUT A FREE INTERNET TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO CALL THEIR CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS IN NEXT 2 DAYS AND DEMAND THAT PROTECTING INTERNET FREEDOM ACT SB3031 AND HR5418 COME TO FLOOR FOR VOTE AND BE INCLUDED IN THE CONTINUING RESOLUTION. WE ARE DOWN TO THE WIRE FOLKS—NO TIME FOR KEYBOARD WARRIERS.
