Bette Midler's version of Wind Beneath My Wings can't touch Vin's tear jerking rendition.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Joe was very good.
He didn't waste words with petty drivel.
He knew the game.

Masterful! It always just rolled right off his magical tongue. Vin was a consummate professional in every way. He’s the gold standard of broadcasters. Vinny started out in radio and that’s why he was so good at telling baseball stories as the games were going on. He came up in a time when you had to worry about ‘dead air’ on radio. Any baseball fan who didn’t get to know his style like i did really missed out.
There will never be another like him.

Me, too! Wasn’t just hiding it. Shared a bedroom. That was the most thrilling era of baseball in my lifetime, bar none! Koufax, Drysdale, Tommy and Willie Davis, Maury Wills(!), Johnny Rosboro...what a team!!
Who’ve I forgotten to mention?
Jerry Doggett, Vinny’s other half, not as great but stayed on the game rather than mouthing off stats like robots today.

Scully was also pretty good at announcing football. He made the call on Dwight Clark's famous catch against the Cowboys in the 1981 NFC Championship Game. Vinny could have covered a car wash and made it interesting and listenable. He was that good.

Scully doesn't utter a sound, letting the sights and sounds of the moment tell the tale.I think what made Scully and those of his generation so great was they started in radio. They knew the power of the listener's imagination
Odd that today, with images, they talk ALL the time.

Speaking of Tommy Davis. Just last month I had a chance to meet him at his home in Rancho Cucamomga Ca. My brother was doing some handyman work at his home there. He gave me a signed 8 1/2" by 11" color picture of himself in uniform and in batting stance from probably '62 or '63.
It's signed personally to me it says:
"To Rick,
NL Batting champ
1962 1963
Tommy Davis"
I will treasure this and pass it to my kids.

Impossible to "think Dodgers" without "thinking Vin Skully!"
God bless and keep him and everyone he loves.
Thanks very much for
your vanity!
Vin's grandchildren stop by to surprise him in the booth. 😍 2:06 PM - 25 Sep 2016

The good old days. Remember listing to greats such as Dizzy Dean and Joe Garigiola. These guys and Vin were class acts that none of the current radio talking heads can even come close to. JMO

You took the words right out of my mouth.
I bought a 2 inch square radio and listened on an earphone.

Maybe there is something to Lasorda's continual reference to the big Dodger In the sky He is Dodger #1.
Farewell, Vin, you ARE the voice of the Dodgers!

Thank you for remembering. We were just talking about him yesterday. I can’t believe it’s been over 16 years since he’s been gone.

I think I mentioned this before, but
Veeck--As In Wreck was a wonderful book. I read the paperback right after it came out and then reread it.

How sweet! God sent him a rainbow. Well done, Vinny!
