Most people are watching for the same reason they watch hockey or auto racing, for the fights and the crashes.
The media has certainly been managing expectations for Hillary. If she gets through on two cankles, it’ll be considered a victory.
We are ordering pizza. I can’t wait to watch Sickery spazz out about the 30 minute mark and do a bug eye bobblehead.
I’ll be watching, but I’m nervous.
I simply can’t stand the sight of her, I may actually watch Monday night football. Yes, it’s that bad.
Will she have a pearl earbud or a glass eye?
For all the talk of some campaign altering moment, the fact is that even according to the liberals favorite pollster Nate Silver, debates rarely, if ever, change the direction of the campaign. The tend to just reinforce the current trajectory (which is pro-Trump). For all the talk about Ford's "No Soviet domination of Eastern Europe" flub, the fact of the matter was the race had been trending toward Carter before the debate. Same for Reagan's "There you go again." line against Carter. The die had been cast when Carter didn't show up for the prior debate and the polls had started breaking toward Reagan already. The infamous Quail/Benson debate when Benson destroyed Quail with the "You're no Jack Kennedy" line. It is considered the worst debate loss in history. Yet, it didn't matter. Dukakis/Benson still lost in a landslide.
Many people on here are theorizing (maybe dreaming...) about Hillary seeming confused, looking out of it, falling down, going into coughing fits. We also fear Trump making some major gaffe or saying something that could be interpreted as sexist or something. But the truth is, both are professionals, while either could happen. The most likely result is Hillary will go out there and do what she needs to do, so will Trump, and the media can argue over who did better for a week until the next debate and then this one will be completely forgotten.
Reverse strip poker. There’s a thought.
Checking out the live thread here at FR could be fun. It would be like watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater.
At that point, I realized that debates had NOTHING TO DO about substance, and everything about appearance, gotcha's, and smarmy, snarky comments, and the applause from the audience, and the spin by the talking heads afterwards.
I won’t be watching but I’m fortunate, I don’t have to watch in order to know how it’s going.
I can tell how it’s going just by listening to the phrases, sounds, and volume of said indicators, coming from my husband even though he’ll be two rooms away and the door to the room he’s watching from will be closed.
I believe Trump will look good despite the concerted effort to gang up on him and that the best Hillary can hope for is that the MSM propaganda erases folks memories of what she actually looked and sounded like.
That will be the Media slant no matter what happens tonight. They'll still continue with their 24/7/365 Trump bashing.
They're maxed out.
So why let it bother you?
Vote Trump!
If I can bare to watch, will it make me look cheap?
Get some booze and play the drinking game. You won’t care about it anymore.
No, honestly I expect a relatively boring 90 minutes. Hillary and the moderator may try to get under Trump’s skin to get him to go off script or snap... but I don’t think anything overly exciting is going to happen.
Might be a few zingers, but I really don’t think tonight’s debate is going to be must see TV when its all over with.
For crying out loud we are looking at a debate where expectations are so low, little chance anything is going to get crazy. Hillary just manages to stand upright for 90 minutes and the press will declare her the winner... and Trump needs only to look reasonable to actually win.
Trump is in the driver’s seat and knows it... Hillary is unlikely to go too crazy on any attacks as well... so I honestly don’t expect anything earth shattering... both sides supporters will claim their person won at the end... and the headlines will almost certainly blare Hillary won no matter what happens tomorrow, and unless Trump implodes and winds up looking unreasonable, he continues on his path to a major landslide.
They TRIED the same thing with every debate that Trump was in, but TRUMP controlled the narrative. He'll do it this time too.
I am definitely with you.
I’m with you. I may come here and watch the blow by blow. I can’t stand listening to Hillary’s voice for one thing. And I will be on pins and needles hoping Trump doesn’t say something that the media will consider stupid and racist and that will be their entire focus.
