Here’s what happened to my friend trying to sell her high-end camera on Ebay.

She had the auction, had a lot of emails from people begging her to sell it to them without using Ebah. She refused.

Auction ended. Sold to someone who wanted it shipped to Nigeria. Got a Paypal email saying it had been paid for. Packaged it up and took to post office. Called me after she shipped saying something felt wrong.

I told her it was a scam, paypal would not send her an email as she described, she needed to check her paypal account herself. She did. Money wasn’t there, it was all a scam and fake but real looking paypal email.

She went back to the post office, it had already gone out to the bigger post office 50 miles away. She drove there immediately and got her camera back!

Buyer disappeared, did not pay (of course).

Be careful.

Don’t trust email. Always check PayPal yourself.

While it is a wild world with lots of scammers in it, eBay and PayPal are reasonable if you are victims of a scam. I was, and got “banned” by both, and I talked to both on the actual phone, real people, and told them the truth. Both opened my account back up, though for a few months they limited the amount I could sell on eBay - but the limit was bigger than I needed.
