I worked for Koch Refining, selling the resid out of the Pine Bend Refinery south of St. Paul and also managed their marine fuels business out of Duluth-Superior. The fueling biz with steamship customers was the most fun I’d experienced in sales.

I liked to go fishing near a boundry waters stream north of Two Harbors in quieter moments. Most days it was cool along the lakefront so I kept a stocking cap and gloves handy.

One day, I rolled down the black stocking cap with “Iowa Hawkeyes” in gold print. My fishing license and trout stamp were examined by no less than five DNR officers...

Because of my name, I get questions about 'the Culpepper Cattle Company'. Never seen it.

Or Daunte Culpepper. Yeah, he's my cousin. I'm also related to Tiger Woods, because my mom's maiden name was Woods.

I don't use that joke anymore, because neither of them turned out to be great role models.
