Fear of what may be coming (Vanity)
10/15/16 | Hoagy62

Posted on 10/15/2016 7:55:33 AM PDT by hoagy62

So, here I am, sitting in the pre-dawn hours of a Saturday in October, three weeks away from an election that will determine the course of our nation's future.

As I am sitting here, reading the various articles on FR, I note that there are a few that are stating that the possibility of an actual shooting war with Russia is a valid possibility. This is due to our idiot President and his lackeys accusing Russia of interfering with our elections.

As I read these articles, a cold dread enters my mind...a dread I have not felt in over a decade.

When I was growing up, I (and, I'm sure most of you) lived under the constant threat of the old Soviet Union launching an all-out nuclear war against the United States. When I was a teenager, I was very curious about such things, and I studied nuclear war, how it might be fought, and how to defend against it. On that last part, I soon realized that there really is NO way to defend against it. There is nowhere you could go in this world to get totally away from the after-effects of a nuclear exchange.

In the 80's I joined the US Army. In my time there, I was stationed in Germany. I was part of a unit that was armed with nuclear weapons (Pershing 2). If the balloon went up, I was sitting right smack dab in the middle of a bulls-eye for Soviet targeters. We trained for the eventuality that the Soviets would come pouring through the Fulda Gap in vast numbers, hoping to conquer Western Europe with a massive lightning assault...and knowing that, if they did, they'd probably unleash WW3. And, it would NOT be confined to Europe.

I left the Army in 1986. Some 3 years later, the Berlin Wall fell. Soon after, many Eastern Bloc regimes also fell. And, finally, in 1991, after a failed attempt by hard-liners to re-assert a strong ultra-Communist government, the Soviet Union fell. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that....maybe, just maybe....the threat of nuclear war was done.

Some 10 years later, for a few days in September of 2001, the fear returned after 9/11. I wondered if Islamic terrorists had gained access to a nuke and were about to use it against us. Thankfully, that fear turned out to be unfounded (for now, at least), and my fear subsided.

Now, 15 years after 9/11, I find that fear coming back in all it's dark oppression. Yes, I knew that Russia still has nukes, and they're still poised on missiles, but I never thought they'd have a reason to use them ever again. Now, thanks to the blustering and threats from our idiot President (and his even-stupider Vice President), it seems that Russia may have a reason to use them again.

Do I have to live in fear again, waiting for the sound of air-raid sirens? Am I going to have to be listening for the sounds on an EAS alert on my radio or TV, stating we're under a notional emergency due to a inbound nuclear attack?

Where I live an work, there is no escape. I did some checking this morning. Where I live, I am about 5 miles from a major Joint Base. I can guess there are at least 2 Russian warheads targeted there. Where I work, I am in right smack-dab in a triangle of three naval bases, one of which is a submarine base for Trident ballistic missile subs. At the farthest, one base is only 7 miles away.

What can I do amidst all this talk of possible war?

Hal Lindsay (I knew him) had it all figured out in the ‘60’s - and was wrong. Same with many other Christian leaders. While the words are the same in scripture, 100 men have 100 different interpretations.

I can guarantee you this: everyone who is convinced they know how it’s all gonna play out will be shocked - because they don’t really know.

God alone knows.

I’d advise you to put your seatbelt on........

I grew up under the same constant fear, bro. I’m more than 5 miles from any viable target, but that won’t matter if the fallout blows my way.

I don’t think the Russians want a large-scale exchange any more than we do. They know our retaliatory capacity probably better than we do and the levels of destruction would be simply intolerable, to everybody on Earth.

But I can’t completely rule out tactical nukes, especially in the Middle East. The Russians are not playing around in Syria and we ignore their warnings at our peril. Plus we are backing the wrong people in Syria, which makes us the bad guys. Luckily, the Russians are sane, unlike the muzzies.

The question then becomes, would Obummer start a shooting war to hold onto power and cancel the election? I fear he would. We might have to rely on some patriot with a cooler head and a ready sidearm to stop him, and that is a longshot bet on a good day.

But I feel that the American Sunrise is coming. Soon.

There’s the king of all ironies: hopefully our missile defense system can protect us from our commander-in-chief.

It’s Dr. Strangelove II, but this time he’s the president.

We are, for the next three weeks, the safest we have been in 50 years.

Add a couple more days to that safety zone. Thanks to Moo, nothing will interfere with her daughters being bridesmaids on Nov. 12. But, daddy won't be there. After that, watch to see if the whole tribe accompanies the Terrorist in Chief to Peru where he has an OPEC meeting on the 20th.

Lots of posturing going on.

And it’s over Syria.

I still haven’t figured out what our urgent national interest is in Syria.

I just don’t see a strike by Russia on the US.

A tactical nuke in Syria is possible.

We all have to give up the mortal coil of flesh and blood at some time. It would be nice to go to sleep one night, body drops off, and the real us - the soul - meets God.

But whatever way it will be for each of us, it is His ultimate decision, not ours, unless we rebel badly.

My only solace is knowing that God is my only shelter, and nothing and no one can help me, ultimately, including my own strength or wits.

We could each suffer at any moment some accident or health attack of some kind. There is a saying “Die before dying” - meaning die to our own will (not in line with God’s), our own plans, being the lord of our own life. Give it all to God, on a regular basis. Then, everything is on HIS account, He has power of attorney, He is my boss. Then by working and living under the umbrella of His protection, life looks different.

And I will add, I have been all my life, a person with a lot of fear. Fear of nukes in the early 60s when I was very young, sort of colored my whole life, or gave a life-long uncertainty a very good start.

Keep in mind the words of Adm. James Bond Stockdale, reflecting on his 6+ years checked-in at the Hanoi Hilton:

This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.

Three naval bases and one a sub base...sounds a lot like Norfolk.

I live about 3 hours from Houston, and if anything does happen, I think NASA will be one of the early targets. If NASA doesn’t exist, nobody to control Reagan’s Star Wars defense system, if it still exists. I think it probably does, and more we don’t know about, and NASA will be a definite target. We haven’t heard much about any space based defense system in a long time, there might be a reason for that.

On the other hand, with a major military base a few hours to the north, Ft Polk a couple of hours to the east, a bit over 4 hours from Dallas, I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting fallout if not major damage if anything is hit anywhere in this region.

Then there are all the other bases all over the place, Norfolk being one of them, and it’s close enough to DC the fallout will only take a day or so to cause major problems, San Diego would definitely be a big target, I think an early one...

And what if several places are hit at once...I’ve been worried about this for a long time, with all the fracking going on, pumping water into deep bedrock, fault lines already overdue for major quakes on California, if anything like this does happen I suspect it will also cause major geological movement, increasing damage to a degree I don’t even want to think about...

I’m worried, our idiot in chief might just be stupid enough to set off a war with Russia, after reducing our military to the smallest size since WWII. If he does, I don’t think many of us will know what hit us. The rest will suffer greatly. Radiation poisoning from the fallout will be ugly.

It’s not the immediate casualties that will be the major problem, it’s the survivors. I don’t even want to think about what their world might look like...

I just hope the government tools dumb enough to even think about this don’t have time to make it to their bunkers...

What to do? I know what the leftists would do. Launch a “not in our name” campaign and some riots. Maybe overrun DC and demand the Republican president vacate the White House.
We will just sit here and fret.

I agree...l could be wrong, but prophesy gives us clues. I do not believe that Russia could not fight the west. Regardless of what is said, they are close to financial ruin. They have no bases to fight the west...but they do have bases in the Middle East...

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

However you are correct hoagy52 that this Obama administration does not perceive the true threat or nature of what is coming or who it is coming from,

These Samantha Power, John Kerry, John McCain liberals don’t believe a Nuclear War is a real possibility about to manifest, its not a real threat to them or that it could appear on their very doorstep. If it occurred (accidentally) at all it would be remote and very far away from them,

Its something distant in their political machinations to solve it politically, where all that is needed is another UN Mandate, agreement, treaty or international police action.

Lately I’ve been reminded everyday abut Belshazzar and his party of 1000 where the handwriting on the wall appeared telling him that thier 70 years was over.

I used to think Obama was just like Belshazzar having a party, I now think its also the entire overweight, slumbering, drugged up, tatted up, USA sitting on their couch with EBT cards and 60’ inch HDTVs watching the most godless vile images to ever spew out on the airwaves for entertainment, its not real to them either,
