The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area.

Longtime radio personality and The Big Broadcast host Ed Walker passed away early on Oct. 26 at age 83. We invite you to leave your thoughts and remembrances.

Saying Goodbye To Ed Walker

Ed Walker spent 65 years on the radio. His last program was unlike any other.

Happy Sunday...it's sunny and fall like here...

There's nothing wrong with tonight's lineup but it seems a little underwhelming...we'll probably have to get lucky for Fred Allen to be very funny...never heard of My Little Margie, will be interesting...classic private eye and scifi with Marlowe and X Minus One...and a vintage armed forces program from ‘45, Command Performance...

How are you holding up out there?

Hi, Vision! We’re back from Texas. How’s it going with you? I see you have nice weather, anyway.

All is fine, nothing noteworthy. Just put some adobo rice in the cooker, will reheat some steaks...it's been a relaxing weekend.

You? How was Texas?

Texas was excellent. It was the annual FReeper shoot, the TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot (I may have already mentioned it to you). We had a great time. It was a long trip, and we split up the drive both ways, staying at hotels on the way there and back, so we didn’t have to drive the whole 9 or 10 hours in one day.

It’s good to be home. Now that you mention the rice cooker, I may do some brown rice in it this evening, to go along with either baked or smoked chicken thighs.

Cool. I remember when TexasCowboy was around and when he passed. It's great his passing turned into something positive.

I wish I could’ve met him. Those who knew him loved him dearly.

I didn't know him, we posted a few times. What's the setup like at the event?

We stayed at Cherokee Village Resort [ http://cherokeevillageresort.com] on Lake Whitney Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and the Shoot itself was on Saturday at a range about an hour away from Cherokee Village. Each day and evening, we cooked and hung out at the big pavilion at the Village. We had beer, fun, good conversation, and we played lots of darts, too. It was good to meet a number of FReepers in person. At the Shoot, we shot our guns and others’ guns, too. We had a barbecue for lunch at the shooting range, some wonderful brisket Charlie smoked and slow-cooked. It was a really cool time.

One funny thing about the trip is that we knew our rented SUV would probably have a USB port, and it did, so Keith had loaded a thumb drive with some OTR shows, but he didn’t spend much time on it and only managed to put some—I think it was CBS—true crime shows, about five of them, and then a whole, honkin’ chunk of Johnny Dollar mini-series episodes. So, we BINGED on Johnny Dollar on the trip there and back. We got a craw-full of it. :-)

That sounds fun. I did the same thing in Italy but mixed it up with Phil Harris, Six Shooter, Shadow, Suspense...(:

Yeah, it irked us when he started talking about Gunsmoke listeners. HEY, DUDE! You have a lot of nerve demanding Gunsmoke listeners donate when you jacked with that show and all the rest. Nope, not happening.
