A rare white hummingbird is showing the world that something small can have a big impact.

The bird that's the color of snow and the size of a thumb was first spotted at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum in May and since then visitor numbers have gone up 40 percent.

People from all over the Bay Area, the country, and even the world are flocking to the gardens in hopes of spotting the stunning creature.

"We have people flying in from Texas and driving up from Los Angeles," said Martin Quigley, director of the arboretum. "We have local people who have cancelled their vacations so they can stay in town to see this bird."

Quigley added: "They'll stand there and stand there. Some people come every day. This is a little obsessive but that's how it is with bird people."

Are they sure the little bird is not simply an albino?
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I’ve seen albino peacocks and giraffes before too.

Hummingbirds are some of the most territorial birds on planet earth.
The can be mean little suckers.

beautiful little thing....

I saw an albino robin a couple of years ago....saw it one day and then the following day in a certain area....

albino birds don't last long because they are easy to spot by predators.....

They’re referring to it as a he, but the curvature of the beak indicates a she. Males usually have perfectly straight beaks.

Maybe Siegfried & Roy can inbreed all captive hummingbirds to ruin those species too.

I think Siegfried and Roy would rather play with woodpeckers.

No, to fly acrobatically and aerodynamically at and away from other males...they’re terratorial.
