Video Link -- I row daily or bike and am slower than a funeral march, but am trying to get faster.
This is the best video I have found on indoor rowing of the 2K for time. Lots of science, psychology, and strategy...which is fun for nerds like me and, maybe, some of you too.
My records for the 2K is just under an 8 minute pace--once (nearly killed me). But it (rowing) is a great means of fitness for older guys and gals because of its low impact.
Now that I see it...it is too late.;-)
Hmmm, that brings back memories. I loved rowing in college, but to be honest, if you are rowing your all, that last 500 meters on the water you think you are going to die. The trick is ignoring it and saying it is all in your mind.
As a long-time fitness fanatic, I know this is a fact.
Because I work out everyday (lift and row), I have become addicted to the pain.
The rowing machine helped me a lot with upper back pain caused by a collapsed thoracic vertebra. I thought I wouldn’t be able to use it but actually felt no back pain at all when rowing, and as I got able to row for longer I found that my pain doing other things was lessened and I started being able to stand and sit comfortably without pain. Does make me feel like a bit of a fool for putting up with the pain for years when that was all it took.
My 2 teenagers are on a rowing team and it can be brutal. During their erg workouts, my daughter has been known to scream during the last few hundred meters. This weekend they’re in a 5K regatta.
Good for you. Glad you are better.
