Under the new plan approved by the legislature, the Department of Natural Resources will capture, neuter, tag, and then release 16 coyotes (4 in each of the state’s game zones).

With a concept similar to the “golden tickets” from Willie Wonka’s chocolate factory, any hunter who kills one of these tagged coyotes would receive a free lifetime hunting license (an approximately $300 value).

Its good that the winner has the option to award the lifetime to a younger hunter. With licenses at about $75 a year, that could save someone a lot in a lifetime.

Why did Haley veto?

I’ve lost beloved cats to coyotes. I know they have to eat, but you touch my fur family at your own peril.

Why did Haley veto?

Because she's a girl.

I know that sounds trite, but informed FReepers know what I mean.

Governor Haley voiced her concern with the original coyote bounty plan by saying that it did not make sense for the state to be capturing coyotes and releasing them back into the wild.

However, the new plan appears to at least partly address that problem by preventing the released coyotes from reproducing.

Not a lot of detail there, sorry.

They have recently appeared in our neighborhood in Orlando, FL.

We have begun bringing in the animals at night. They are killing domestic cats. I think a trapper has been hired to catch the perps.

I live in suburban NY, Rockland County.

Two weeks ago, in broad daylight a coyote just strolled down the street like he owned it.

Coyotes eat rats, ground hogs, mice, voles, moles, chipmunks, opossums, and will even take on a raccoon.

Owls and hawks take out more kitties than coyotes.

Haley has been such a disappointment. This from a Floridian who contributed to her campaign fund!

That being said, I believe a bounty should also be placed on drug dealers.

Changing ‘Coyote’ to ‘Donkey’ should help.

I think it may have more to do with the fact that she’s a Methodist.

I agree with you to an extent.

This is one reason why I do not kill snakes. I have never encountered a venomous snake close to the house but I would kill one if it was. I have seen plenty of rattlesnakes and copperheads in the woods, and water moccasins in the swamps, but let them be.

However, wild predators need to still be afraid of man. Only by hunting can this really be accomplished. I’m not suggesting that they be eradicated, but hunted to keep the population away from human areas. The spread of black bears on the East coast worries me, because many states are not allowing them to be hunted at all, and go out of their way to prosecute those who may fear for their lives and kill one. Just having bear-proof trash cans and keeping pet food indoors is not enough. Bears need to know bad things happen to them when they wander onto human areas.

Killing some—especially those who are hyper-aggressive or won’t stay away—is the only way to do this. Banging pans or setting off fire crackers don’t.

I hope everyone knows by now that Haley is a RINO.
First came the flag thing and now this.

She is also as ineligible to be President or VP as Cruz, Rubio, Jindal, and George P Bush.

None are born here of citizen parents and are not natural born citizens.

SSSU.

That and rabbits. A healthy and abundant rabbit population keeps the coyotes busy and fat. No rabbits and kitties go missing.
