That’s how our dog would kill them. You really couldn’t stop her, once she grabbed one, she shook it and it was dead.

However, our dog would proudly parade around with the squirrel in her mouth. Every single time she caught one it was the same drill, parade around, head held high, and then go to some far away part of the property and bury it.

I never researched what kind of behavior that was, or if it was just specific to her. But if you’d give her a larger edible treat in the house, she’d travel the whole house, more than once, and then finally decide on a hiding place. We had her as a pup, so it wasn’t a learned behavior, rather it was something that was hard wired in...she also sucked blankets...but that is a Weim behavior that many have.
