Colin Nathaniel Scott, 23, was with his younger sister when he walked more than 200 yards away from the boardwalk on June 7 to a hot spring called Pork Chop Geyser.
Scott was planning to “hot-spot,” or soak in the water but slipped and fell in when he reached down to check the temperature, television station KULR reported Monday following a Freedom of Information Act request.
The incident was apparently recorded by Scott’s sister, according to the television station, but park officials would not release or comment on the video.

I’ve never been to Yellowstone, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess there were prominent signs warning people to not get close to the steaming hot springs.
Can we just direct those protester to that place
Horrible. I think of the sister in particular to watch him die right in front of her in that way, then to know that his body disintegrated and there could be no true funeral must be traumatizing.
I learned one key thing from this story: Never go out on a limb at Yellowstone! NEVER!

Wow...all the warnings everywhere to stay on the boardwalks and he still goes off the trail. There are stories everywhere of legs punching through the crust and getting parboiled in nothing flat.
Hate to say it, but “Darwin Award Winner.”
I can’t imagine the anguish in his younger sister who had to watch that (and was apparently filming it).

Soak in a geyser? There’s a new level of stupidity.
I went around 30 years ago. I don’t remember signs...but the path you walk is essentially a boardwalk, with railing on both sides. I do think there was a park ranger at the beginning of the path, who gave us instructions not to leave the path...really so we wouldn’t damage the springs.
I won’t believe this unless I see it repeated and proved on Myth busters.
The average IQ is 100. 50% of people are below that. To top it off, his sister filmed his death. Something is very wrong with that behavior.
And you’d be right. Maybe he was UI or did it on a dare...he was that age. Too Bad but a lesson to others like him.
Yellowstone is very dangerous. I am surprised more people don’t “slip and fall” into the beautiful blue bubble pots.

This guy went 200 yards! away from the path. I have to assume his little sister was in tow, if she was able to film it. I’m sure they were looking for a moment of youtube glory.
