The day Trump announced his run, I told my wife, “You know I’m a Cruz supporter, but nobody is going to beat Trump if he is serious in his campaign.”
Then last New Years eve, we were ringing in the New Year’s party with our group of semi-loveable lib friends, and they called me out, “So Mr. Politics, who do you think is going to win?”
Me: Nobody can stop Trump, but I’m still voting Cruz in the primary. (Laughter accompanied with, “Oh please let Trump be the nominee.”)
I suggested they wished that at their own peril.
TMI alert from this point forward.
The night before the election, my wife and I were visiting Disney World for my birthday treat, (My wife’s happy place), and I was checking the news on my iPad in our room. She asked what I was doing, and I replied, “getting an election update.”
She walks over to me and spins the desk chair around and straddles me, saying, “Honey, you’ve voted already and done what you can. You need to let it go. Trump will not be president. I want you to understand that and not let it get you down after tomorrow.”
I looked into those beautiful blue eyes and said, “wanna bet?”
On election night, she went to bed after they called Florida for Trump, saying, “We’re F*&#ed!”
When I came to bed at 3:30 AM, she stirred awake and asked, “What happened?” When I told her Trump won she asked, “Did Hillary concede?”
Yes.
She replied, “What have we done?”
Comforting her has not been easy. Oh, and the New Year’s frinds, tehy will not even speak to me about the election results.
Happy days indeed!
So your wife was for Hillary? I didn’t notice if you said one way or another.
I have a very liberal acquaintance/friend and we NEVER discuss politics. But she can’t help but notice the sh!t-eating grin on my face! Gloating is good.
