The news comes as Rogers is being considered by President-elect Donald Trump to be his nominee for director of national intelligence to replace Clapper as the official who oversees all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies. In a move apparently unprecedented for a military officer, Rogers, without notifying superiors, traveled to New York to meet with Trump on Thursday at Trump Tower. That caused consternation at senior levels of the administration, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal personnel matters. The White House, Pentagon and Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment. The NSA did not respond to requests for comment. Carter has concerns with Rogers’s performance, officials said. The driving force for Clapper, meanwhile, was the separation of leadership roles at the NSA and U.S. Cyber Command, and his stance that the NSA should be headed by a civilian.

So what is Snowden getting at?

It doesn’t make sense for Obama to remove the head of NSA 2 months before the inauguration of a new president. And I don’t see where they have raised any serious issues with Clapper.

It’s not like Trump couldn’t talk to the guy for a smooth transition.

I don’t get this whole story.

Supposedly, the recommendation to remove him was made about a month ago.

The official reason given was concerns about ongoing lax security, and ineffective operations against ISIS.

I don’ t believe either reason, nor do I think it had anything to do with his recent visit with Trump, for which he took personal leave.

You know how this works. In Obama’s case he hired a couple of Bush holdovers and every time something went wrong they would blame the holdovers claiming that they were Bush appointees. They don’t want Trump to do the same to them so if it looks like Trump is going to hire one of the Obama appointees then they want to fire him first.

Not sure about that either.

Rogers came out and said that Russia was involved in trying to influence the election. Now Trump wants to hire him?

I am more inclined to think that Rogers is in the way of something that the Obama administration wants done before January 20th.

Removing him now allows the black hats to erase and hide possible incriminating information.

From the WaPo article:

...Rogers was charged with making sure another insider breach never happened again.

Instead, in the past year and a half, officials have discovered two major compromises of sensitive hacking tools by personnel working at the NSA’s premier hacking unit: the Tailored Access Operations. One involved a Booz Allen Hamilton contractor, Harold T. Martin III, who is accused of carrying out the largest theft of classified government material. Although some of his activity took place before Rogers arrived and at other agencies, some of it — including the breach of some of the most sensitive tools — continued on Rogers’s watch, the officials said.

Martin’s alleged theft was discovered when some of the tools he is accused of stealing were mysteriously released online in August. They included computer code based on obscure software flaws that could be used to take control of firewalls and networks — what one former TAO operator called “the keys to the kingdom.”

Martin, who moved from the NSA to a job in a Defense Department acquisitions agency last year, was arrested in August. The news broke last month.

But there was a second, previously undisclosed breach of cybertools, discovered in the summer of 2015, which was also carried out by a TAO employee, one official said. That individual also has been arrested, but his case has not been made public. The individual is not believed to have shared the material with another country, the official said.

Rogers was put on notice by his two bosses — Clapper and Carter — that he had to get control of internal security and improve his leadership style. There have been persistent complaints from NSA personnel that Rogers is aloof, frequently absent and does not listen to staff input. The NSA is an intelligence agency but part of the Defense Department, hence the two overseers.

If you read some of his previous tweets it becomes apparent Snowden is concerned Trump is going to go full throttle with the surveillance state apparatus Obama tacitly approved.

I rather think there are persons within the organizations concerned Rogers has his own Harold T. Martin III information boxed set.

I watched a documentary on channel 10 last night about ISIS the building of it, the reasons for it, and you know something:

Right there was Rogers leading his troops into arms way, they over took the city and President Bush told them to ‘stand down’, if they had gone across they would have ended ISIS right then and there, but again our government didn’t have a spine...

To think that today, if Rogers and his Marines had run ISIS to the ground, we wouldn’t be in this situation...tells me a lot...and I hope Trump picks Rogers, the man knows what he is doing and with a Leader like Trump over our Military, no one will ‘stand down’ again!!!

My take-away is : "his case has not been made public. The individual is not believed to have shared the material with another country." That's clever word-smithing. If the individual was not collecting the information to share with another country, whom within this country was he working for?

>>> ineffective operations against ISIS <<< ???

Well, NSA is SIGINT. Electronic signals/data collection. And they’re not exactly a secret these days.

If ISIS is going old school, low tech with their coms to slow NSA down, what can NSA do?

Lots of variables in play.

I agree. The NSA won't hit the 'delete' button as directed by 0dunga. Trump will be handed very little from the previous administration who will have engaged in the most egregious and illegal date purge in history.

I suspect one point of the call to fire Rogers is the claim that he engaged in politics as a government employee, as hard is that is to believe from any supporter of the obama mafia.

You got to put yourself in the position of the Big Zero.

NSA has all the electronic information or at least access to it. The Biz Zero, Hillary, the IRS, the DOJ, the FBI EPA all have a huge trail of emails that are smoking guns of illegal activity.

A new NSA director with a new DOJ and FBI director could easily collect all the evidence they need to send the Entire Obama Cabinet to jail.

Obama needs a couple of months to find and purge all electronic records before he leaves office and anyone who stands in his way will be asked to leave or killed.

If you thought Hillary deleted 33,000 emails was a big deal, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Rogers is on the ground at NSA and if named early can cut deals with people to preserve their careers who will stand up to Obama threats on purging evidence.
