EXCLUSIVE: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon‘s Michelle Yeoh is heading into the final frontier with Star Trek: Discovery.  Sources confirm to Deadline that the upcoming CBS All Access iteration of the fabled franchise will see Yeoh playing a Starfleet Captain.

However, before you start mapping out the deck of the Discovery, sources close to the production tell us exclusively that Yeoh will actually be the leader of another ship. We hear that Yeoh has been cast as Han Bo and her ship is the Shenzhou. The Yeoh-run spacecraft is set to play a big role in Discovery‘s first season.

The producers think they’ll make money off “Star Trek: Any Damn Thing.” They may be right.

“How do we market “Star Trek”?...

Why, to young women of course!

They may have to rely heavily on China. Blatantly PC agenda would kill StarTrek franchise for traditional audience. Over the years, people have tolerated it because they like story content of StarTrek, but there is a limit to audiences to put up with increasing amount of PC crap, while content is becoming cliche.

“Series co-creator and producer Bryan Fuller frequently has emphasized the show’s commitment to diversity, confirming at TCA last summer that there will be at least one gay character, and also has said there will be both familiar and new alien races.”

Trying to impress the homosexual market. They’ll need a trans, and then one each of however many genders there now are, plus aliens.

I liked TOS. Of course, I was a kid when it was on. Haven’t liked the follow on series. The 4th movie was the last for me.

Maybe they could have a Star Trek NYPD, or a Star Trek Cooking show, or a Star Trek Mysteries. Just slap Star Trek in front and hope someone watches...

The “at least one gay character” killed it for me. Not that I care, particularly, if there’s a gay character, but I do care that the nitwit in charge of the show somehow thinks that promoting this “message” is so important that it needs to be worked into a press release. I had enough PC BS from the previous series - and this one looks to be even worse. What’s next? Naming some alien ship the “Trump” and firing on it? I wouldn’t put it past them.

Oh, she's a twofer! Two minorities at the same time! She might even be a threefer if she happens to be a lesbian.

We all know that good movies and good television shows are the consequence of making sure we have the most diverse characters that don't happen to be Normal White Males.

We have to play "catch up" for all the years we only had White Males in those starring roles.

I like Michelle Yeoh. Wing Chun with Donnie Yen. Police Story 3 with Jackie Chan. And Far North with Sean Bean.

Really? I thought she was pretty good as a captain, far better than the female captain in the pilot episode that Mulgrew replaced. She played the authoritative bitchy role really well, and is a fine actress. I didn't like the spineless male officers under her command, though, they were emasculated.
