A lot of these fires are the work of arsonists...you like fire, Tobias?

My question, too.

Arson is the under reported jihadi thing.

I don’t understand how it ends. Looks like he was blocked and got in a confrontation with the driver. What happened?

I suspect we all would be saying worse in that situation. Very scary. I want to know what occurred with the stopped car.

Prayers for the residents, tourists and fire fighters. Shame on the msm for not notifying them ahead of time.

We had a flooding situation years ago and we could see and hear the loud speakers across the river from us telling people to evacuate. But that was the other county. When I called our county, they flat out told me I didn’t know what I was talking about and there wasn’t a flood. Must have been Moses and the Red Sea Pt. II with the river parting down the middle at the county line. Called the next morning to the river authority morons two hours away sitting behind their computer screens that they were flooding us out opening the dam above us but not the dam below. Again, got told I was lying that the river was rising as I stood at the window. That’s when I learned you can’t count on the authorities.

Hard to believe no better warnings or assistance from authorities.

The winds peaked at gusts of 87 mph, spreading burning embers across the area and starting numerous other fires. When a fire a mile away can spawn other fires that quickly, thing can go south in a hurry.

Has the rain that has gone through put out most of it? I sure hope so.

It rained last night and that certainly helped, but Gatlinburg isn't expecting the soaking rain until tomorrow morning, and there will be high winds again for a few hours ahead of that. Lots of fires still going that might get spread out again.

If it had been Hollywood hills the flames would have been about 40’ higher.

Thanks. Hopefully they’ll get a good soaking tonight without too much wind ahead of it.

With hilly terrain and steep canyons filled with highly flammable hardwood brush like Chamise, Toyon, and Manzanita, that make it impossible to fight a fire on the ground due to the fact that Chamise traps firefighters and greatly reduces their mobility.

That is why when a wild fire gets going in CA, it often destroys thousands of homes.
