Strange that some stories say she drank her own urine because eating snow hastens hypothermia and others say she ate snow.

Is this our news media in action?

She also seems like a major dimwit. You have to be a special kind of stupid to take a regular car on a higher altitude BLM road in winter around the area. Maybe she is running from sanity?

That makes no sense. 30 hours isn’t long enough to starve, so there’s no point in eating what is essentially useless branches.

And there was snow everywhere, why drink urine, which by nature is full of stuff your body didn’t need anymore?

Oh heck — the real story here is that the father and son stayed by their car, and when the wife didn’t come back quickly, they walked up the road, called for help, and eventually were able to get her rescued.

Somewhere way down my lists of winter activities (#1 is Stay Home), is to remember to bring fire-making tools so that if I find myself lost in the woods, I can start a forest fire.

People who would not leave the house to look for me will come running for a forest fire.

This plan may have some flaws, but I’m sticking with it.

She took a “survival class”. Maybe she wanted to show-off her “skills”. IMO she has a screw loose.

I hope to never end up in such a situation.

But if I was thinking immediately about survival, I’d probably start by getting a bit of gas from the car, and using it with the car battery to start a fire. Because once you have a good roaring fire, you can melt snow, which means you have water, and you can make smoke, which will signal your location, and the car is a good shelter, and you should easily be able to survive 4-5 days even if you have no idea how to collect any food.

Then you do expeditions out a couple of miles each way trying to find signal for your phones.

Of course, I’m still wondering if they could have gotten the car out of the mud if they just spent a few hours piling up branches and stuff . Which would be another task after I had the heat thing taken care of.

Chalk that one up to a special kind of stupid .... and unexpectedly lucky as most of those types are fatal.

You’ve got it exactly right! Lol! Perhaps the husband was getting a wee bit tired of his wife... “Sure honey, you can do it. It’s for our son.” Then he waited what he’d hoped would be a sufficient amount of time before walking up that nearest hill to make the call.
