Clemson Earns A Rematch Against Alabama For The NCAA Football National Championship

Get ready for a blockbuster sequel.

It’s Alabama vs. Clemson, The Rematch.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide will take on the No. 3 Tigers in a do-over of last season’s national championship game, a 45-40 thriller won by Alabama.

If the Jan. 9 matchup in Tampa comes anywhere close to that classic in the desert, it will more than make up for two semifinal duds on Saturday.

Alabama (14-0) wore down No. 4 Washington for a 24-7 victory in the Peach Bowl, while Clemson dominated No. 2 Ohio State 31-0 in the Fiesta Bowl, handing Urban Meyer the first shutout of his coaching career.

The Tide opened as a touchdown favorite.

CBSSports.com’s Jon Solomn writes that while Clemson was inconsistent at times this season, the Tigers always looked like potentially the toughest matchup for Alabama. Clemson has the defensive line, the dual-threat quarterback, and a number of offensive weapons to threaten Alabama.

Still, this is an Alabama team that leads the nation in total defense, rushing defense and defensive touchdowns. This might be Coach Nick Saban’s best defense ever. It’s certainly the fastest and most athletic.

“They are who they are because they’re the best, they’re the standard,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney. “We’re excited. If you’re ever going to be the best, you’ve to beat them. It’s going to be an unbelievable game. I’m glad we’ve got a shot. That’s all we can ask for.”

Alabama will be going for its fifth national championship in eight seasons, a run that already has stamped it

I am not sure what happened to OSU (the one in Ohio).

They were a decent team. Sometimes a team just matches up against another or sometimes things just don’t go your way. Anyway it was indeed a stomping.

Looking forward to this Re-Match. Should be Epic. Both very tough team's on both side of the ball. Thanks to Thee Ohio State Buckeyes for another wonderful year! Defense hung in there for 3 quarters, but 3 and out for 3 quarters on the Offensive side did them in. Taking nothing away from a Great Clemson team. Good Luck to both teams. Now. Whom to put my $ on to recoup my losses for last night 😀

I just loss my respect for you. Always enjoyed your posts. This statement is outrageous. Dabo is a Christian and so are many of the Tiger players. So let’s hear your “facts” of homosexuality.

Alabama offensive play calling was horrible. They need to find someone who is interested in winning to call the plays. The defense might not be able to pull it out against Clemson if the offensive coaching is that bad.

You must not have seen the video clip. Look quick - not sure how long it will stay up.

Clemson has a shot. The Washington QB was terrible and yet still they hung pretty close. That Bama did not blow them out easily is a huge red flag, IMO.

Clemson D looked fast against THE Ohio State. Watson is miles better than Browning and Bama had trouble putting UW away. I think we will have a ball game. Should be fun.

No I did not see this... I’m sure this won’t go over well with the coaching staff. Disgusting. But still.. one idiot’s action should not characterize the whole team as homos. That’s ridiculous.

OSU blowout or not, Alabama will eat Clemson’s lunch and then some.

Not if you think osu’s defense was good for three quarters. They were never in the game.

"Alabama offensive play calling was horrible. They need to find someone who is interested in winning to call the plays."

Offensive Coordinator and play caller Lane Kiffen had already accepted a job at FAU before this game. So....he'll call the plays during the championship game for the last time for Alabama.

Alabama OC Lane Kiffin to be next head coach of Florida Atlantic

Now....

The new Alabama offensive coordinator is Lane Kiffen's old buddy, Steve Sarkisian, from USC. Both were fired as the head coach of USC before Sabin hired them. Sarkisian has been on Saban's staff (at $3,600.00 Mo) for a few months now.

Steve Sarkisian Named New Alabama Offensive Coordinator

Sarkisian was fired as USC for a drinking problem. Saban says he's cured.

I don’t know if it was the jerk, the drunk, or someone else calling for Bama yesterday, but if the head coach has any sense at all, the same person won’t be calling for the championship.

Too much of a dynasty is bad for the sport. As a Georgia fan I know that Uga has just about always been afraid of Bama. Uga in Athens did win 21-0 in 1976. I was there. Fun game. Clemson back along time ago was easy for Uga to win. Now that Uga is rebuilding again for about the zillionth time, I am hoping for Clemson to win. Athens and Clemson towns are in similar topography. Of course I did see the Rolling Stones at the Alabama basketball arena in 1972. So I won’t be terribly disappointed no matter who wins. Clemson would be cool!
