84 Lumber Suits Up for Super Bowl With Controversial Ad Buy
LBM Journal ^ | 2/3/17 | James Anderson

Keep an eye on your TV just before halftime of Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the Falcons and Patriots. That’s when 84 Lumber will air the following ad:

This isn’t the original version of the ad. For that, you’ll have to see 84 Lumber’s website during halftime of the big game. When 84 Lumber and their agency partner, Brunner, submitted the ad to Fox for airing during the Super Bowl it was deemed too controversial.

84 Lumber’s president and owner Maggie Hardy Magerko talked to the New York Times about the situation.

“I still can’t even understand why it was censored,” she told the Times. “In fact, I’m flabbergasted by that in today’s day and age. It’s not pornographic, it’s not immoral, it’s not racist.”

84 Lumber?

Didn’t they disappear some 25 years ago along with Builders Square?

Here in Texas they did. I guess other places still have them.

Really stupid move considering that 84 Lumber is based in Western Pennsylvania which has plenty of locals ready and willing to do construction jobs.

Now, if they were based in LA where loss of illegal labour might mean loss of lumber sales, I could understand their point.

But here we have plenty of locals available and willing to work, so I don't see how it can help them. 84 Lumber's CEO ought to know better, too. Her father, who founded the company, was a good conservative.

So why accept Buds commercial and restrict this one? Cancel them both. I guess 84 Lumber didnt want any contracts associated with the wall.

“How many legal entrants walk into this country from Mexico?”

The commercial does not show them entering the United States, so there is no way to tell if they would be legal if they did enter the country.

But I doubt that at the conclusion, it would show them swimming across the Rio Grande.

Guess they’re marketing to the Hispanic run construction industry. In my area, they account for the vast majority of construction workers.

Has been going on so long, I have no doubt that finding experienced American workers will be quite a challenge.

Prolly Christian or pro Trump

Nope. Mother & cute-as-a-button young daughter seek to walk across a desertlike plain, but the Big Evil Trump Wall bars their journey. And in contrast to "exclusionary" things like nasty walls, this company wants to be "inclusive" of all peoples - which assumedly means all races, genders, non-genders, genderings, gender-identifications, gender-constructs, blended-genders, bent-genders, genderbiebers, .....

The point of advertising is to attract more business.

I don’t think this commercial does that.

Its clear to most of us!

And its clear that you have a soft head.

You always seem to be on the ‘other’ side of every issue.

I think this commercial will drive business away and might, soon, motivate a few ICE raids, if we get back to them.

There’s a reason 84 Lumber was 86’ed locally.

They suck.
