Spring Fashion "informed" by Liberal Angst? Dare to wear spring colors! (vanity)

An ardent liberal friend asked me if I had seen the colors and fashions scheduled to be sold for Spring 2017? She remarked that they were unlike any she'd seen before and that she was stunned at how much of the clothing features black, grey, white, beige etc. Normally, the season features colorful, cheerful tones to enliven the season. That made me wonder if the fashion industry is not satisfied with it's initial protest of the Trump presidency. Initially, they canceled their traditional parties etc. I thought then that they just might done sack-cloth and ash. It might well be that they simply designed sack-cloth for the rest of us to wear....until the Dems return to office. Have a look yourself. I find orange and red clothing that is muted with brown or grey so that they resemble autumn colors. I see some navy clothing and dull blue denim but again, those aren't traditional colors. On this Macy's link, scroll down and see how much black clothing there is, "new" for spring!

Here's another link from Elle.com for spring fashion:

This kind of reminds me of an old commercial joking about a Soviet Union fashion show wherein a careworn looking woman stalks down the catwalk in prison grey kerchief and skirt/blouse ensemble, shining a large flashlight around her as if patroling a fence while an announcer haughtily says, "Evening wear...." (pronouncing "wear" as "ver" to imply an accent)

Well - I could be wrong about the color conspiracy but if I am not, I just want to remind FReepers that it's possible to import fabrics of all hues should you not feel like following the possible color protest fashion dictates of the left. Sewing is becoming a lost art - time to find it? Oh WHAT would happen if people just wore what they wanted? :)

I’m not a huge Kohl’s shopper, but I found some really cute spring tops there by Lauren Conrad. Nothing is drab. It turns out she is somewhat of a conservative too.

Aw! Thank you! And may I say you have an astonishing memory? According to YOUTUBE, that commercial is from the 80s!

For the past 15 years, or more, Easter pastels of pretty pinks and blues, lovely yellows and greens have been ditched, with BLACK tinted hues added in everything.

Pastels have been unattractive for ages, in cosmetics, nail polish, in apparel, wall paint and color decor.

Thanks for posting. Great idea to search for alternatives.

Giant was playing non-stop sad music on inauguration day. Four songs in a row while I was there. I’m terribly afraid I was grinning like a loon.

But back to fashion, drab colors are easier to mix and match for an office wardrobe, saving money in a rotten economy. They aren’t as noticeable when worn twice in the same week the way a bright color would be.

You’re welcome. I kind of gave up on Kohl’s a few years ago as I didn’t like their clothes. The Lauren Conrad stuff is really cute for this 56 year old. :) I’ve always loved fashion and she has some great pieces for any age.

I have an astonishing memory when it comes to useless information. Just don’t ask me what the date is or what day of the week it is.

I do see signs of the rotten economy everywhere. The quality of cotton sank even while we were assured that the economy recovered and everyone who wanted a job, had a job.Polyester or “modal” replaced cotton. Fabric tags moved from the color to a side seam or were printed in light ink on the fabric itself. Quality of wool and silk sank like a rock - gotta love that recovery!
