MILWAUKEE An outraged mother is calling on Milwaukee Public Schools officials to fire a kindergarten teacher who introduced the young students in her class to a Ouija board.
The mom, who asked to not be publicly named, said the game was used on Friday in her 5-year-old's classroom at Zablocki Elementary.
"They were shutting off the lights and making it dark and talking to spirits. That's not something that should be at school," the mother said of the game, which is said to be able to channel spirits.
In an email to the mother, the teacher said the Ouija board had been in the classroom since Halloween.
"The kids have been asking for a scary story and I got the board and moved the paper clip to answer some of their questions. They asked about scary characters in movies. I did not say there were spirits. It was all done in fun. I understand your concern. It was silly and I'm sorry. I will take the board home and this won't happen again," the teacher said.
The family said the children are too young to be exposed to the concepts of Ouija boards, and they believe the teacher should just stick to curriculum.
The 5-year-old is now having nightmares, the mother said.
"He's scared now to go to bed at night, to be in the dark, anything alone," she said.
MPS officials have not responded to a request for comment.

I have a board in the attic. I’m going to hide it in a closet at the Pentecostal church and see if we can glean some members from them when they get Demonfied.
“Ouija boards are like ghosts”
A Ouija board is just a board with a planchette and has no power.
But if you are trying to contact the dead, that’s the real problem. It’s not what you use, it’s THAT you use.
Dear Organic,
I beg to differ with you on Ouija Boards. They are spiritually dangerous, I speak from personal experience.
I do agree with you that the Dungeons and Dragons roll playing games are mostly harmless. I say mostly based upon that are probably a very few who go into their character and let it become them.
I recommend that you read the following account of one man’s Ouija Board experience: http://bswett.com/1964-03LimitEffects.html
Totally agree. The world must be a frightening place for them. Spirits live inside wood. Mary in a tortilla, and demons floating around out there waiting for a friendly Ouija board to invite them in, etc.
I don’t know how to break this to you, but there’s no magic in the Magic 8 ball either.
I hoped to wait till you were older to tell you.

“I put a spell on you, because you’re minnnnne”. Screamin’ Jay Hawkins
“I took it down after a couple of people almost had anxiety attacks when they saw it.”
That coulda been comedy gold. Rig your lights to a dimmer switch in your pocket. Or rig a door to slam. lol
Snicker. Hide it at the Pentecostal church and lure them away to your church when the devils get in. LOL
I think being your friend might be interesting!
And to all of you who truly believe it, if you belong to Jesus, you actually, really, are safe.
I guess all the kids in this class can read and write, add and subtract if the teacher has time to play with ouija boards. I wonder what else she’s doing?
Thanks for the ping and the link. There is no power in a Ouija Board, itself, but using one with the intention of contacting spirits is dangerous.
Obviously, the plastic and cardboard medium isn’t the issue. It’s the activity that violates Deuteronomy 18:14, Jeremiah 27:9 and Micah 5:12.
LOL - that is so bad. Great idea. ;-)
I’ve cleaned up quite a few disasters from ouija boards. They are kind of like guns in that they have the ability to be misused by the unknowing naive individual and cause much harm.
A couple times as a kid. I took it out to the burn barrel and burned it. Don't fool around with portals. Don't will tulpas into existence either.
About forty years ago I had rather extensive experience with Ouija boards. You can, in fact, communicate with something using them. Automatic writing works as well.
Best advice: Stay the hell away from that stuff.
You are woefully mistaken. The Ouija board itself is inert, with no power of its own. Once a few people have assembled with the INTENT of communicating with spirits, things do happen. I tinkered with those things about forty years ago with stunning results. Remember, the Ouija board is an inert communications device. The force that moves the pointer is the muscles of the participants which are influenced to move through a connection with the spirit. Know this: The spirits who communicate in that manner know what is going on and can increase their power with practice. You do not know what is going on, yet open yourself to their "override" with the same practice.
That turns out to be very bad tactics on the part of the human players.
My careful experience with a Ouija board convinced me that they are not a mere parlor game. Oh, the board itself is totally inert; however, the INTENT to commune with spirits can lead to such communications actually taking place. The problem is that those spirits know somewhat what they are doing whereas you don't have a clue. You do not have the advantage nor understand the powers in play.
Life after death exists, and so does a very complex world of the Spirit.
Yet, the influence goes away when they are blindfolded. Go back through youtube and watch some Amazing Randi documentaries.
One of our experiments involved sending a message through one Ouija board to another that was about 500 miles away. The message arrived word for word and pretty much in real time.
There is a spirit world. The spirit world can influence ours, and even communicate with it. I can, to this day, communicate with spirits through automatic writing. When the Ouija board is used extensively, people tend to make such intercommunication easier. Initially, a number of people are needed to "force multiply" the process so that the spirit can move the pointer. Later, an individual can provide a spirit access to the board. Auto-writing can develop after that, which is much the same with fine enough motor control to use a pen or pencil.
I don't do that anymore because I have no way to evaluate possible risks.
