Dad went both ways a across the Atlantic during and at the end of WWII. I think she carried 30,000 troops each trip. Sad if she is lost.

I was on the Queen Mary in the mid-1980s. Some trade show sponsor had a suite, and we stopped by. There was a VP with us, and he said he went to Europe on the Queen Mary during WWII, uneventful, except that they did have one "man overboard".

The guy would have been dead from hypothermia by the time they could get a convoy escort to try to save him, and that was wasn't worth the U-Boat risk.
