If anyone should have found Calley and his unit's crime repulsive, we should. I spent 17 hard months in combat and we Marines were always aware that the Vietnamese civilians in the villes were the whole point of us being there.
The Corps also trained us well, watched things carefully, and court-martialed quickly anyone who crossed the line.
