Why Does Most of the World HATE Peanut Butter?
Self | March 25, 2017 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 03/25/2017 2:01:39 PM PDT by PJ-Comix

The other days I got the munchies for peanut butter so I put some on bread and enjoyed it. I also like peanut butter in ice cream as well as cookies. Also I like peanut butter shakes. Okay, by now you guessed it...I like peanut butter. And I'm sure most of you do too.

So my big question is why does most of the rest of the world HATE peanut butter while it is very popular with North Americans (Americans and Canadians)? I read that peanut butter is so hated by most of the rest of the world that once some aid organization sent crackers and peanut butter to some starving nation and the folks rejected it.

There has to be a reason why North Americans love peanut butter while most of the rest of the world hates the stuff.

I grew up on Nutella sandwiches in an Italian household. The thought of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is nauseating to me. I love peanut butter though.. Peanut butter cookies, cakes, brownies, brookies, bread, cupcakes & pies. I especially love the peanut butter and chocolate combination in candy bars.

People who love Marmite and Vegemite have no place to criticize any food. Canned baked beans on toasted white bread for breakfast? They have a log in their eye, IMO.

I think it’s just childhood conditioning. OTOH, we love some recipes that involve sauteing onions in peanut butter, seasoned with cayenne and finishing with lime juice. Great on noodles or with rice. I usually add leftover chicken to the sauce. Tastes great, but there is a certain point in the process where it smells terrible. Thankfully, that passes.

I like the peanut butter but not of the processed "Skippy" variety you find in the supermarket aisles with like a three year shelf life. I like the chunky peanut butter freshly made by a peanut grinding machine. Many supermarkets now have that.

Even better is almond butter. Much more expensive but well worth it.

natto is 1000 times better for you than peanut butter (regular eating essentially ensures you will never have a stroke)

I'll take the stroke.

Peanut butter is a complete food group in the nutritional pyramid. Combine it with mayonnaise on pumpernickel bread and you have the sublime on earth.

I do think it is what we have in childhood that determines later loves like peanut butter and jelly, marmite or beans on toast. But why we all spend time beating up on the other guy is beyond me.

Vegamite is fantastic, especially on a fried egg sandwich

I prefer it on untoasted bread because peanut butter melts like crazy. Just my preference, lol!

Thin, splotchy layer. It is so strong you should use very little. A huge mistake is treating it like peanut butter.

All of my wife’s Polish uncles died of heart attacks from good polish food.

And they they had buckets of after the funeral. The dark side of me found that to be kind of funny.

Ahem! I believe I can contribute something new to this thread. Who adored peanut butter and insisted that each of the hundreds of grand hotels he stayed at, world-wide, over the course of his incomparably illustrious career have it on hand? Winston Churchill.

It was he who made food and beverage directors all over the world place panicked calls to New York for rush shipments of the stuff!

It does, but I deal with it with a spoon. I really like peanut butter on saltine crackers too for a snack.
