I believe that we dropped Vietnam-era “Daisy cutters” (BLU-82B) in Iraq - an earlier (15,000-pound) version of this kind of super munition, which was used to suddenly blow open Landing Zones in jungles.
They actually warned friendly units across the border before dropping those Daisy Cutters during Desert Storm.

You know what they say, close enough for Government work.
The pressure wave is enormous - to get a small idea of what it might be like, stand 10 feet away and 2 feet ahead of the barrel (parallel to it of course) from someone shooting a .308 or 300-06, and you will have a small idea of what such a shock wave can do when it encompasses all under it for a mile.
This is not the first time that I heard the MOAB acronym. I am pretty certain that we used it before.
Meanwhile, I am happy we have a President who is willing to use our full arsenal where it is appropriate.
