The only way you can be a retired Captain and see if you were prior enlisted. The minimum rank to retire is Major for officers. However, you can be medically retired at any rank.

Yes, prior enlisted. Here's the pic from the article. Note the rank, Second Lieutenant, but with a 3 rack row, including AF Good Conduct, Longevity, AF Commendation (at highest position), etc.

Looks like a prior Staff Sergeant.
