FULL TITLE: Found! Amber Alert teacher, 50, arrested and his ex-student, 15, found safe near a remote northern California commune five weeks after pair vanished from Tennessee
Former Tennessee teacher Tad Cummins was arrested this morning near a remote commune in northern California and 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas whom he was alleged to have kidnapped was found unharmed nearly 2,500 miles from home after an intense five-week search.
At a press conference held Thursday afternoon, TBI spokesperson Josh DeVine recounted how a tip from a resident led to Cummins' capture and Thomas' recovery.
According to the official, at around 11pm on Wednesday, TBI got a call from a man saying he may have encountered the wanted pair and that the two of them were believed to have taken up residence in Cecilville, California - a very isolated and rural area near the Oregon border - within the last week and a half.
TBI then contacted the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office and learned that investigators there had received the same tip from the same person who contacted the Tennessee agency.

thank you 2am. The father in this story has suffered ill health over losing his daughter can only imagine how he felt every second Elizabeth was missing. This is why I stuck with this story and kept it on everyone’s minds hoping someone saw her at Wal Mart or at a gas station and would call 911. I know somewhere in Tennessee that dad will sleep better tonight and I’m proud to have done what I could to have helped. Only wish more stories ended this way.

Thank you for keeping this up front for us to read. This young lady has the mind of a child and trusted this man for whatever reason and left with him. Even Elizabeth Smart somewhat accepted her kidnapper and abuser to an extent that she didn’t run when she had the chance. These young girls are children and deserve better from these men. I am glad she is safe and her father will finally be able to hold his little girl soon.
And when I say Elizabeth Smart ‘accepted’ her kidnapper, I believe she was so abused, so brainwashed and so traumatized that part of her mind just shut down. I certainly would not mean she willingly accepted her kidnapper and rapist.
For instance, if you go back through American census records for the past 220+ years, you will find instances of wives who were as young as 14 or 15, and in some cases, married to men in their 20's or later.
The reason I make note of this is because, in the past, 14 or 15 years old has been considered an age at which a woman is capable of consenting to marriage.
While such instances may not be prevalent nowadays, and indeed may not have been that common in the past, they did occur legally in many cases.
So automatically throwing around derogatory labels at those who disagree "around the edges" is somewhat excessive, IMHO, because of variances which have historically existed from era to era, and from culture to culture...

Pedophilia is sexual attraction to a PRE-PUBESCENT CHILD. 100 years ago it was common for 15 year old girls to get married and bear children. Why? Because the prior 100,000 years of societal & human evolution thought that was a good thing.
While not trying to excuse this abhorrent behavior, I say to you: Quit trying to confuse the issue between pedophilia and what happened here!!
